Oh Deer
Keep an eye out!
Hit large doe on Crow Canyon Road last night. Surprizingly Vette doesn't appear to be too bad. Front end and hood are tweeked and a few scratches on passenger side of hood. Going 41 mph and she was instantly right in front. Thought she flew over the top but appears went over the passenger side of hood.
Afterwards we drove about 2 miles until in lit area to stop and look. Amazingly deer hair was still loose on hood.
Felt bad for the deer, but it was.... "deer, Bamm"..... that quick.

Be happy you didn't hit a skunk, which in my opinion is the worst kind of animal to hit. Well, except for really big animals like cows or elephants. Luckily there's not much chance of hitting an elephant around here.
One of my daughters lives out in Crow Canyon & the other one in Norris. Sometimes there's just nothing you can do it happens so fast. I'm glad there weren't any injuries, and I hope the damage to your car is minor/negligible

Interesting.....the autobody shop said some insurance companies want to know if you ran into the deer or the deer ran into you? If you hit the deer its collision and you pay the deductable, if deer ran into you its comprensive. I called my agent. They don't care, its comprehensive to them. And I have 0 deductable
Anyhow need new front bumper, headlight and foglight (headlight scratched and fog light cracked). The hood may buff out and am sure the fender will. Although wouldn't mind if hood was repainted as has several chips ( if buffs out I may pay to paint it as they have to paint the new front bumper so should be less to do now).
I have hit many deer in the big rig, not fun at all. Always feel sad. I would hate to hit one in the Vette...major damage possible. Used to run the coast from Santa Cruz up to SF while still dark and foggy. Deer and wild pigs always getting hit, very scary. And this is with 80,000 lbs behind me. Wrecked a lot of bumpers and or fenders.

Braked in time to avoid a buck once just in time to get t-boned by a doe.
Glad you didn't get hurt.
Your a lucky man to avoid much damage. I lost a real nice 421 Bonneville to a HUGE cow in the middle of the Nevada desert. The poor animal ran out into the road as we were doing around 90 and I hit her square in the shoulder. Killed it instantly, and what made it worse is she voided as her hind quarters whipped around the passenger side. Windows down, hard top, buddy asleep on the back seat, instant coverage!
Bad part (if that wasn't bad enough!) was that it holed the radiator and we spent a cold couple of hours pinching off tubes and dumping all available liquids (use your imagination here - no, the cow was NOT involved) into the radiator.
Now, everytime I drive past the Harris Ranch stock yard, I remember that night.
Three years ago I was on a roadtrip taking my new (to me) '98 Grand Cherokee to leave at the condo in Cabo. It was loaded to the gills with tools, linens, household goods........about 2 or 3K worth of stuff. It had just turned dark & I was in the middle of the desert about 30 or 40 miles away from my planned hotel stop. I came over a little rise in the road at 60mph & boom..........a little herd of cattle! The reader's digest version is 2 dead cows, a totalled jeep, and me trying to get out of there before they caught me (it's 3 grand apiece for the cows if you're a gringo )! I ended up on the lam dragging my suitcase down the deserted highway with a few paltry things & took a 9 hour cab ride to the next town further south just to get away.
Glad you and the car or okay. Years ago a friend of mine in a Formula Atlantic car was testing at Sears Point. Came over the top at turn three and a deer was in the middle of the track. One dead deer and a broken shoulder for the driver plus car damage. Have to agree with Mel about hitting a skunk.

Talk about a memorable trip........
That is hard to top. I did hit a group of coastal deer once in coastal fog ended up killing three. It was in a big rig, still very scary.
One reason I am not a fan of Mexico....being a Gringo!!
