NorCal Dyno Day???
This is a post from Racer X From the Solstice Forums found Here.
We need at least 10 and have about 4 Confirmed Dyno guys atm. The more we get the cheaper it can be as well. If anyone wants in and needs me to relay info let me know.

$100 is a little steep for 3 pulls since most of our local shops charge anywhere from $25-$50 for the same thing. Also $300 for a 1 hour tune is way too much

I will check in on the Prices for the LS V8 Guys. I know the Tune Pricing for the LNF crowd is pretty steep so $300 is a bargain for us considering what Vince can do with our ECU's.

I am more interested in the dyno day and just slapping our car on the rollers and meeting some new people. See if they are flexible on the dyno part without the tune. I am happy with my tune.

Idea why dont you open a shop here locally and we can all go and do the dyno nights like we used to at Roberts shop??????????

Just get Abel to install a dyno. Very helpfull for diagnosing complex problems that only show up in motion. Plus you can do dyno days and even bring in a tuner to handle tunes after major mods.

Oh yeah - in response to the OP - $100 is just plain for a dyno day. Typically shops charge $100 if you bring in just one car for dyno pulls. When you have cars lined up for a dyno day, expect prices of $30-$50 for 3 pulls. $60 is the highest I have ever seen paid at a dyno day.

$300 for a tune is no cheap price either. Especially when you consider that Vince from Trifecta has canned tunes for the GM cars listed on his site. That should cut down on tuning time since he has a fairly close starting point depending on modifications that are on each car. I'm not saying its easy or that it doesn't take time, just agreeing that the prices are a little high for the assembly line type dyno's at a promotional day.

I have kicked around the idea of opening a dyno tuning shop (no mechanical work just tuning) with my son, but since I retired I lost interest in wanting to put in the time and effort to do it and my son doesnt seem to show any interest either. We would both rather just play around ourselves with tuning our cars and not have it be a job.

The OP Racer X is in talks with Vince so the Dyno Tuning should come down in price a bit at least for everyone outside the LNF crowd.
Also the Dyno Pull price is up for negotiation, so the more guys we have the cheaper it should be.
If I could get a list of all who are at least interested and the suggested price they would be willing to pay, that may help speed up the final numbers crunch.
Also there are a lot of LNF users who use HPTuners and while it has made some major strides within the last few months, there are still more motors being blown using it than when Vince tunes them, (Which he has had access to more maps then HPT has had and probably still does. Must be nice being a ex Microsoft Tech). So while I would love to tune my own car, I think I will let a Pro LNF tuner take charge since I know very little about tuning right now. I have been learning with a TuneBoy for my fam's Triumph Motorcycles, but it is much much simpler than the LNF stuff.
Also considering the Little LNF engines we run have over 2500 maps, it may be the reason we pay a bit more in tuning, even if not all of them are tuned.

Abel Vette Works? Abel Speed Shop? Sounds good to me - it would cut the number of shops I work with down to, wait, let me count... one

I would be interesed in a "dyno day". But $100 for only 3 pulls?
I'm happy with my tune (and tuner), so I would be going for just the 3 pulls.
Also, I'd be more interested in what my Corvette puts down...since I already know what my LS1 Firebird does. But my Corvette is 30+ years old...

I respect you guys and all and I'm not talking down to anyone here so I dont expect any negative feedback from this... but I have to say...
Robert spoiled you guys with friend prices on all services. A business has to turn a PROFIT to keep the doors open.

I have been to dyno days at Synergy, TPS, and AD. I paid $50, $60, and $40 respectively. $100 is way out of line when you are pushing through cars like cattle.

On dyno days there is no need to do 3 pulls on a car...you only need 1 pull to get the numbers and afr readout and everyone is happy. No tuning is being done so why 3 pulls? It isnt necessary at all.
$25 for one pull is fine for most people to pay, get a quick number and throw next car on and the owner to make some $$ for the food and drinks and such.
Dyno days arent necessarily for making money for the shop, its more of a gtg have fun day and to get customers for future work.
BTW...Robert had dyno days for the fun of it as a gtg, not to make money. I enjoyed going there for his dyno nights.

When you have already spent the time to get a car strapped down and prepped, te additional 2 pulls take a couple minutes. Most people (including tuners) like to get three pulls in case one does'nt come out right. Also, most tuners will take it easy on te first run to make sure the car sounds healthy befor putting it through the ringer.
