PM me offline and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have - or just send me your phone number. I've lived in Disco Bay for 12 years and could give you a pretty good overview.
I worked at the Disco Bay Country Club as a kid. What a bunch of snobs with houses on the water, killer toys, and big TV's. I hate them all. HAHA Wait that was Tom's house.
In all truth Discovery Bay is a very nice area if you LOVE the water. The area is right on the Delta and has everything local. If you golf, boat, or enjoy entertaining the area is for you. Hell I am betting now is the time to buy. About 4 years ago $1,500,000 wouldnt buy you **** in that area.
Nice area if you don't mind living fairly remote...and you don't have to commute to other areas in the bay. An absolute deal killer IMO if you have to commute for work farther than the East Bay. If you can sit back and work from home (or are retired) and like boating, it could be a nice place to live.

I would have to agree with this. My wife and I both commuted to the South Bay for many years before I began working from home (and she got laid off). The long commute kept us from spending valuable time with our daughter which we will never get back again. If I had it to do over I would either have changed jobs to work closer or not moved out here.
But if you have no kids, or you work close - or at home like I do now - it is great. Just be prepared to drive a ways to get to any real amenities...Walmart, Home Depot, Costco, variety of restaurants...those are all at least 15 miles away or more.
We have a Safeway, a few restaurants (the steak house is nice) and some other limited services but we find ourselves driving to Brentwood or Tracy very frequently for things we like or need.
Here is my position...I love it here, but I no longer have a commute and can enjoy it more, and I have come to terms with driving 20-30 minutes for almost everything except groceries. These are the trade offs for living in one of the few waterfront communities in the Bay Area.

We,too, are looking at moving to that area. Saw a few homes with Realtor today. Now that Lyn is retired thinking of selling our residence in Oakland Hills , take the one time no tax, use money to pay off the Tahoe condo and have no house payment in Discovery Bay. Anyone interested in a 3 bedroom home in the Oakland Hills?
When my wife and I retired in 09' and were moving back from Orange Cty, we looked in Disco Bay. There were very few homes for sale that weren't either a short sale or foreclosure. Almost all had been trashed by the previous tenants. We just couldn't find the "right house". We also were concerned with the location. It is nice if you don't need to go anywhere. Nothing is close and Hwy 4 is a pain.
