Default Hwy 12 to 5 better than 680/580/5

I rolled the dice on my recent trip from Napa to Long Beach. Looking at my paper maps taking 12 to 5 looked almost the same distance as taking 12/680/580 to 5. Yes possible slow downs with drawbridges (lucked out) and can get stuck behind 18-wheeler but it sure was less stressful than 680 thru Walnut Creek/Dublin then 580 Livermore to the merge. I clocked it at 100 miles on 12/5 to the merge. If I remember right that almost the same distance the other way. I took the same route home and again it felt a lot less stressful.

Also checked out the Corvettes at Abel at speed - resisted stopping to really look.

Cutting over 12 is a great way to get out of the traffic. It is also a great way to go to Sacramento if you have the extra time. Head across the Rio Vista bridge, make a right and take the river road to Freeport. Just a nice quiet drive without the river to look at and no where near the traffic to deal with.
