Default Any Maxima fans out there?

My friend has an '01 Maxima and wants to mod the heck out of it. I want to help him set realistic goals, he thought once the turbo got put on that he would walk me (slightly modded C5) but I think reality is setting in. Turbo is only at 3 lbs but without tuning he is getting decent gains:

Lower turbo run was against the wind. Definate improvement and good trap and ET gains. We put the 5 lb spring in this Saturday but haven't run it since, could be interesting.

What's the point of putting a turbo on with only 3lbs?

From what you have listed there, my 5400 lb titan truck would outrun it!

My wife drives an altima with the V6 in it and that thing is amazingly fast for what it is. Cracks me up actually. I'm going to take it to the strip just to embarrass a few unsuspecting fart pipe-ers in their 4-banger hondas.

Its just a bud who knows nothing about fast cars. He ran the low boost to 'break it in' (I don't know whos telling him this stuff) and really, 100% no doubt thought he'd take my low 12 second C5 with higher boost.

He won't listen to us. I want him to get a LS1 Camaro and F/I that car, he has the money too. Says he wants the Maxima because there aren't any out there, yeah, there's a reason behind that.......

We were at the Texas mile and there were a bunch of Vettes and I said that I loved seeing so many and his response was 'that's why I'd never own a Vette, there are too many of them'. Nevermind that this was a sports car event.

I took him out in mine and gave him a WOT run to about 130. The little SOB said 'were you even on it all the way'. I wanted to ring his little neck acting like his car was so much faster. Oh well, I have only lost one race to him and thats when I started in 3rd gear. I nearly stalled the car, so much so that I was reaching for the keys to start it back up. When we raced with me starting in second, I humiliated him.

If you track the Altima let me know what she does

I don't understand the Maxima any more, or I at least don't understand Nissan's approach to their family of cars. The Maxima used to be different from the Altima, but now you can buy Altimas that are nicer and smoke the Maxima. Somewhere along the lines their "best" sedan got one-upped by its little brother, and I can't see how anyone could justify purchasing a Maxima any more.

In order to bring back the Maxima, they need to make is a slightly cheaper alternative to the G35 - make it rear-wheel drive and available for mid-$20s and they'd start stealing some Accord and Camry sales.

...and make sure they add a V8 option (I can see G8 competition all over this).

I like the Maxima/Altima's with the 3.5l v-6. We had an 04 Maxima but had to get the Tahoe for the wife and her job. Missed it so I picked up an 03 Altima with 250hp or so. The new Altima's come with 275hp with the new lighter 2-door coming out soon. Not bad for a family car. Good quality, at least my two Nissans have been solid.

I used to love the Maximas.
I had a 97 with the first Stillen Supercharger on it.
I broke 4 transmissions at the track before I gave up. I think my best run was 13.7 with a 2.8 60ft time

I'd be embarrassed with any of the choices you listed. God, I am so anti Asian car it's just sick.

My wife has a 1996 Maxima and it just turned 200,000 miles. We have never had to do a thing to it other then brakes and tires. The big joke in the house is she plans of driving it till it quits then throwing it away, but the car fears for its life so it keeps on going and going and going. It runs and rides as good as the day we bought it when it had 26,000 miles on it back in 1998.

my brother is a Maxima die hard it was his first car, got it when he was 16 and is 21 now it's a 2000se with every possible bolt on they make for that car just about, he's at a cross road now. Either dump a ton more into it for a turbo that i have advised against (his ia an auto and he's on his 4th trans now) or keep it as his dd or project and either get a C5 or a GTO he has driven both, the C5 when i had it and my LS2 GTO. I believe the boy has seen the light of a V8 and will soon join our ranks.
