Default **2008 Nissan GTR Update**

Figured at least some of you would find this interesting...

*Redline at 8000rpm
*Rumours of three derivations initially not confirmed, but there will be different versions over time
*New 'Super MFD' - advanced controls relating to the set up of car
*Wheel sizes unknown - thought we could read from pics but they appear 20"
*Japan and USA first for deliveries
*Official unvieling at the Tokyo motor show this year.
*Rumoured 480HP 3.7L V6
*The test driver was a French VP of Nissan and he thinks it will be a smash hit
*Test driver commentted that Porsche have a lot to be worried about
*3 buttons on dash: "T", "S", "V"
*Bose sound system
*Gauge: 340kmh(211MPH)
*Steering wheel has other controls on it such as stereo etc.
*There appears to be a lap timer as well linked to buttons on the wheel
*Door handles have a push in button for them to pop out to pull on
*Quad exhaust system to mirror the twin round lights
*Brembo 6 pot callipers
*Bridgestone Potenza RE070
*Satellite Navigation screen in with MFD

I think this was filmed at Goodwood Festival of Speed in England from last weekend.

I have no questions this new GTR will be best ever Japanese car and going to set some fast times.

This thing seems pitifully ugly. Though I think I could overlook the ugly factor if its light enough given its other high tech features. Better be under 3400 pounds or I will simply want to puke when I see it.

No one knows yet, we do know that inside sources claim that Nissan is taking exstensive messures on keeping the weight down. Considering the 911 turbo is the sole benchmark for this car I would expect weight to be similar...probably in the 3400lbs range.

I'm glad its a good performance sports coupe and I'm glad its unique looking..

Not my taste but interesting all the same..

I would imagine as sales slow down there will be a more elegantly styled version for Infiniti....which would be a better choice for me...

I couldn't look at that techno wonder and say I'm glad I bought one..

I'll be glad to see it give Porsche fits....that'll just push them to make better 911's.

Another update...

"It's finally starting to happen, the beans are being spilled just months before Tokyo Motor Show. Nissan's new GT-R engine is in actuality, not from the VQ family at all, but a VR, engine code: VR38. Peak power is estimated at 480 metric horsepower @ 6,800 rpm; torque comes in at a strong 420 lb-ft @ 1,700 - 5,600rpm.

News is that the new VR is even lighter than the VQ and VK series of engines that have similar capacities. Here's where things get pricey, titanium intake valves and magnesium alloy exhaust valves will be used as well as a version of the new VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) technology as used in the V36 Skyline Coupe. Red line is from 7,600rpm, with a 7,800rpm rev limit--almost 8 grand, we love it
Even after the VR hits all 480 metric ponies at 6,800rpm, the engine is still able to provide 90-percent of maximum power up to redline. Certainly Nissan used the improvements learned from the VQ35HR (high response) for the new VR, giving it nearly-instant torque with a strong, powerband throughout. The engine will be turn-key capable of over 600 hp.
We hope to drive the GT-R very soon. More information to come.""
