Default Z06 Corvette Killer-We will see more of this.

http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/16/2...f-motor-trend/

...the GT-R boasts a 0-60 of 3.5 seconds, an 11.7-second quarter mile, a 192 mph top speed, and a sub-$80K price.

I think we will see more of this as some high horsepower cars enter the market but I'll stick with my car!

I like it! I've always liked anything skyline though. It will surely start a S%$T storm. Who cares, fast cars rock! I too won't be letting go of the Z.

Probably till the insurance companies start to bend us over, like in the days of the early ZR1's.

I have never really cared for the nissan even when I lived in japan everyone wanted one but they were POS in my opinion and id doesnt look like they have changed much in the last 10 years body style wise.

you could import a skyline pay about 10K for it ship it for what 2-3K then convert it to US safety standards for 30K or go buy the new one!

It really doesnt look to much different than previous years. But Ill bet the import guys cant wait for it to show up they have been drowling over this car for years to come to the states. I can only imagine what the japan version is like!

I would still rather have a Z06 than the GT-R

I think there are several cars coming with 400-500hp. This one should have it's weight down to get those performance numbers but most of the others I have read about are heavier and won't be real contenders.

Even the Fords may get enough horsepower to catch the Z06 but extra horsepower won't get a heavy car around corners without risking your life and stopping doesn't take horsepower. The beefed up Shelby GT500 will be a straight line car with OK cornering.

Those are some impressive numbers...I hope the actual production cars weigh more or something. I'm guessing though from a roll stock vs. stock the Z would win. It's onyl 450Hp/370lbs torque V6...I doubt it weighs less or equal to a Z06. So that right there shows it will suck from a roll race. This thing must be AWD for the impressive 0-60mph and 1/4 mile.?

how bad would it suck if you were in a new 2008 Viper and got beat buy the new GT-R from a redlight.

Time for some more mods!

I think horsepower wars are good for everyone....there's always going to be something lighter and faster.....I love cars in general and am looking forward to the skyline/GT-R....

Isn't the GTR All Wheel Drive? If it is that car will kill out of the hole.
It will be easy to tweak that car to 600++ in HP. However at the end of the day who cares, its a cheap looking Nissan. They rag on our interiors for being cheap, these cars look horrible to me. All consumers win in the HP wars.

There is more at issue than just pumping up horsepower. Emission standards have to be met with Calif having even tougher standards.

I was at the National Z convention in Daytona early October with the SCCA helping the Z people put on the autoX. Nissan has their 350Z Nismo edition (only 2 made). It didn't have any more power than the production 350Z. The Nissan rep said it had to do with emissions, too hard to meet standards with higher HP. So the Nismo Z had body mods and chassis enhancements....did well on the track. I wonder if Nissan isn't having issues with the GT-R and meeting emission standards. Also, ever notice that cars coming into distribution never have the HP of original claims. Incidentally, the Japanese engineers of Nissan were there watching every move. The two Nismo 350Z were destined for the crusher in mid October. Neither had a VIN number.

Good point. I would think since they had to switch to a v-6 for weight they are having to push the engine more to extract the 450HP..in doing so have to also create more emissions.

To me the GT-R is a Ricer in Wolves clothing. If this were a 2WD car we wouldn't be hearing "Corvette" killer. So the advantage this car has is its AWD and starting from a stop. Just like the 997 turbo versus the Z06. THe 997 wins out of the hole, but the Z will catch up and pass.

From a roll it will be no competition.

The cover says "Corvette Killer" not Z06 Corvette Killer. It says it is priced like a Z06.

You need to change the post title because that is very mis-leading.

Agreed.

Motor Trend tested the Z06 at 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. Quarter mile of 11.5 @ 127.1 mph.

It seems as though every car manufacturer has been trying to build a CORVETTE wanna be. Many of them have come close, but that's as close as they've gotten. No need to worry. I am not.

Yes it will have AWD. From a dig it'll be nuts I'm sure.
But I'll have a bunch of asian guys staring at me in that thing... no thanks.

I thought the concept was bad - damn it came right back to looking like a 350Z! Those Alice Cooper eyes at least gave it some character.
I wonder if they'll offer a KISS package

Technologically speaking, I'm sure it'll be one of the best cars on the market. But beyond a point, the Japs have a tendency to get weird with their products.

I'll leave it. The comparison was with a Z06 in price. There is nothing written of the coupe.

Until the mag is released we won't know if it's a Z06 or Coupe they compared it to.
