Anyone currently using E85 in their other vehicles?
I have an 02 Suburban for the wife, and filling the tank the other day, I noticed a sticker on the fuel door for E85. I've never considered this, but the costs of fuel, and too much free time have me thinking about it.
So who here uses it? Any tips, feedback or other info I should know before trying this? I checked the VIN, and it shows the truck can be run with this, but the lack of experience has me posting here. Search didn't show me much...
I don't own anything that uses E85 but being in the middle of ethanol country has not convinced me that it is a viable fuel. here, it was 9 cents a gallon cheaper than the low level gas last summer, and your mileage drops by 1/3. so if you are at 15 mpg, figure 10 mpg. plus, when you consider that 1 unit of energy is consumed to get 1.2 units of ethanol, ethanol is not a viable fuel. also, since so much corn is used in ethanol, it drives up prices on everything else, beef, chicken, soda pop, plastics etc.
my buddy has the Tahoe with the E85 engine...he tried it a few times and claimed less performance (although I believe it has more HP) and a mostly unnoticed (mostly city driving) gain in mileage...seems like a feel good attempt to me...now where's that Allison Diesel???...
