Default C6Z vs GT2 vs ACR vs GTR

Wow did you guys check out the new Car And Driver magazine? Check out the lap times. What really amazes me. Is that the Porsche GT2 and Viper ACR both sported the Michelin Pilot Cup tires. And the ACR was 4 seconds faster

50-70 mph 10.8 (in top gear)

doesn't surprise me one bit... these are also the people that cannot break a mid 11'sec run with a stock z06. And that is the average. Still, and i know this is almost cliche now... redo the test with pilot sport cups on the z06 and you'll see a different tale being told.

nice numbers on the ACR.

i really like the 5-60 stat, haven't seen that before. everyone should do that. it takes the skill and vagaries of the initial launch out of the equation. (and avoids the problem where mags don't actually measure from standing start.)

they really should have done a 60-100 or 5-100 as well, though.

GM says the Z06 does 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, but C&D can't even do 5-60 under 4.5?

Default Tires Are Horrible. What Is New!

Guys the RUNFLATS ir RUNCRAPS are the problem. HORRIBLE TIRES!!! New Michelin Zp's are so sticky. Much different story with better tires the Viper and Porsches run.

Heres the thing though. The new Porsche GT2 is quicker than the mighty Carrera GT. And the GT2 posted a faster lap time at the Ring compared to the CGT. Porsche confirms this.
The ACR on the other hand beats the GT2 by 4 seconds. And both sporting the same tires. I cant imagine what the ACR will do at the Ring.

LMAO at the much hyped GTR managing only a 12.6@111 in that same test, btw it edged out the Z06 by .6 secs.

The Viper ACR really had an impressive showing, i think it's sorta like the anti-GTR. In the way the ACR hasn't recieved nearly the same type of coverage the GTR has but it came into this test walking quietly but carrying a big stick.

Z06 folk shouldn't take this loss to the Viper badly though, the ACR is a strictly track version of the Viper, imagine if Corvette took the Z06 and made it a more lean track car (no sound proofing, no power anything, lightweight seats, no HUD, more agressive suspension, better tires, etc)

The cups are considerably stickier...

What happened to the GT-R spanking everything on the track? Also, I would have like to see the ZR1 in there on that test, and not the Z06...

Wow. This shows how good the Z06 really is. That is some pretty awesome competition. And with equal rubber it would beat the GTR pretty soundly around the track. I am dissapointed they did not throw the regular 2008 Viper in there as well.

The article was tested/written/edited about 3 months ago. That's generally the lead time in the magazines. At 3 months ago, no one had their hands on a ZR1 to test. That's changing now. We should start seeing ZR1 tests soon (and I don't mean from the house organs like Corvette Quarterly, etc..)

I still wonder why my copy of Car & Driver gets to me so long after some of you guys..... By the time I get it the test will be old news...

I think the Z06 looks like it hung well over all. It's the old man of the test. The others are brand new models purposefully built to take out the Z06 among others. The 1/4 mile time & mph proportionate to the others was strong. Only 0.1 and 1 mph slower then the ACR w/ 600hp.. and out trapped the much heralded GT2 by 3 mph... very nice!!
The GTR is a great track car I am sure... but with each test the 1/4 time and mph get slower!! I think the early cars were ringers for sure!

The acr is not a track only version of the viper, that would be the competition coupe. One can get a/c and a radio in the acr. I know cause I'm looking into one now.

And that trap speed actually seems a tad lower than the norm.

Also...does anyone know what kind of tires come on the ZR1? Please I hope it is not runflaps...

Take magazine drag numbers with a grain of salt folks. 90% of magazine writers and editors can't drag race worth a damn.

True, but all the GT2 Traps I have seen so far were 128-130mph
