I knew someone would question it. He he he. I would drive it everyday just to make people angry.
There are actually some good stories about folks using their GTO's for drivers, to the store to go shopping or to pick up the kid from school. There was one of the 39 built that was equipped with power windows. No insulation, but power windows !

Ariel Atom Questions

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just saw your post in the dream garage thread. I must say that you have beautiful vehicles. If you don't mind me asking how do you like the ariel atom? I've been interested in one for some time now and even though at the moment I don't have the funds available I would like to look into one within the next year or two. I saw one driving around town once and tried to follow the owner to get more info but lets just say I was left behind, lol.
Anyways, do you find yourself driving it much? And when u do, do you enjoy it or does the thrill kind of go away after a few months of owning it. I want something that is extremely fun to drive but also can take on cruise or a nice drive. Is it street worthy at all or it it pretty much just a track toy? I thank you for your time.

Answers-

I DO drive it a lot. In the 2 1/2 years I've had it, I've put more miles per year on it than most of the Vettes I've had (fourteen garage-queen Vettes through the years). After finding out how much fun it is on a roadrace course-Hallett in Oklahoma and Eagles Canyon at Decatur, Tex, I find that street driving is kinda boring in comparison. But a slow drive through the neighborhood with the wife and two Daschsunds is very comfortable and enjoyable.

The Atom is almost exactly as street-worthy as an excellent sportbike. You are just as exposed to the wind and weather and bugs and wind noise, etc. as a superbike. I LOVE it! I find that on the street I drive the Atom through the twisty bits of backroad two-lanes faster than I would feel comfortable going on a superbike.

People flock around it wherever I take it, and lotsa pictures get taken of it.

It is the fastest thing with a license plate at the road courses I mentioned, and faster than some single-seat racecars, and yet it is very low-maintenance, and very reliable, and very economical to run.

Some of the most fun-per-dollar of anything I've ever had!

Did I mention I LOVE it?

Years ago I saw a guy driving a GTO in Newark Ca.The car was gold and looked like it had been painted with a paint roller, paint looked really old and had the sound of a car you stop to take a look, very loud and raspy. My brother thought I was full of $hit when I told him about this.2 weeks later he saw the same car.If there were only 39 of these built, ever single car must be accounted for it would be interesting to see where this car is.
