Default Ford GT vs. ZR1!

A family friend of ours has had a Ford GT since about 06 and after months of trying to get him to add more HP, he finally caved and did it. A tune and a bigger pully and a few other odds and ends and the dyno read 631hp. Low and behold, we get it out onto 94 just outside of detroit and a ZR1 pulls up next to us and wants to light em up. I knew we would win, but felt the ZR1 would hang no problem. Either this guy had no clue how to drive the car or we just straight up stomped him, but I assumed buying a ZR1, one knows how to drive a car that powerful (no, they were not manufacturing plates). He signals us to pull off with him and after talking with him, he assures us he has never been beat that bad! I felt like he was bs'ing around the fact that he had this beast of a corvette and no clue how to drive it. Anyway, long story short, I had a very fun day in our friends GT, which he let me drive for a bit , and man is that thing wicked. Just wanted to elate my experience.

631 rwhp versus 638 crank? Given equal traction, the zr1 should have been stomped. Stock tire-wise, I'm pretty sure the Ford GT's got better rubbers on.

For $130,000 I hope it had better tires.

All and all, the GT is a very impressive car. I'd love to own one.

Mid or rear engine cars should launch better, or rather it should take
less skill to get a great launch. A good driver vs a great driver in a Z06 can have a .5 second difference so likely the same with a ZR1. Not to say the GT couldn't overpower it, but the Vette driver probably wasn't Jrod or Ranger either.
As to your comment about someone buying the car so they could handle it I would say that is generally untrue. They could handle the payments for sure but the demographic is more like Porsche owners than drag racers.

he wasnt stock, forgot to mention, he said he had a bigger pully and a few other things and was over 700hp but he could just be blowing hot air for all I know, we didn't pop hoods or anything. He was another young rich arabic guy over here in the metro detroit area with more money than he knew what to do with. They are all over the place now in Dearborn driving lamborghinis, ferraris, vipers... u name it, they are all flyin up and down ford rd, michigan ave, and telegraph trying to race everyone and their grandma and pretty much are just ignorant, arrogant, and have deep pockets so naturally it felt good to whoop one. Not bashing the ZR1, we could have raced a lambo or a ferrari and I still would have posted.
