Ferrari 599 GTO
I just saw a photo of the new Ferrari 599 GTO in this week's Automotive News and it sure looks a lot like a Corvette. In fact when I first saw the photo I thought it was a Corvette. Maybe the actual car doesn't look so similar but at least in this one photo the resemblance is quite strong.
Looks like a very impressive car however. It has a 6.0L V-12 cranking out 670 HP. 0-62 in 3.35 seconds and a 208 mph top speed. The starting price is not announced but the similar 599 GTB sells for $334,400 in Italy. The GTO is a limited edition (only 599 to be built) of the GTB so it will probably be more expensive.

Character!
The Ferrari has character built into it whereas the ZR1 is lacking. I wish the Corvette had MORE character, it would be a bigger attention getter, such as the Ferrari! JMHO!

The Ferraris have this mystique to them that makes people crazy, but for $300,000-400,000 dollars it better make your friends jealous and the women interested I am thinking I could have one helluva stable of killer rigs for that kind of coin:
1) 2009 ZR1
2) 2003 M5
3) 2010 Ducati
4) 2010 Vert (for when I want to put the top down)
5) 32 Low boy roadster
and still have lots of cash left for gas, insurance, etc.

Tough to find any negatives other than the cost for the Ferrari GTO, it is sweet.

It's a beautiful car...no doubt about it. However, you would need to learn to speak Italian in order to explain whats wrong when you bring it in for service. And, I'm betting after a short period of time, you'll speak it fluently.
I have all the power I could ever use in my LS3 436 hp Vert....and I can maintain it myself.

Yeah, its fast, but it has a crappy Bose audio system and I'm sure its optional navigation is not as good as my Garmin. Also, a car costing this much should have leather and alcantara standard.

I have owned 2 Ferrari's (360 spider and F430 spider) and 10 Vettes.
(all cars one at a time!). I now have a Grand Sport vert. The magic of Ferrari is how they sound and how it feels to be driving one. (My buddy has a 599 which I drive from time to time). But for a sports car daily driver, there is not a car on the planet that can come close to what a Corvette is and has to offer. Style, performance, reliability, cost-to-operate, fun, soul, spirit, heritage....a Corvette has it all.
(especially those with 3 pedals, which Ferrari no longer offers!)

The attention from the ladies when my friend drove his was insane--yeah I know they are not quality ladies and they are self centered and superficial etc., but fun none the less.

GM could give Corvette character for alot less.
I can't say that I agree with you that the ZR1 lacks character.

Price Price Price. It's not like the car is determining it's own price. The 599 GTO is pure SEX! Give credit where it is due. If only 599 are being built, the price is justified in that alone. The McLaren F1 was limited much more than that and demanded over a $million back in 1993. People will still pay that today for one if not more.

I thought 2 things when I first saw this car the other day (other than I want it of course):
1. Absolutely fits the oft overused "Sex on Wheels" description
2. Those wheels are almost dead ringers for the Z06 Spyders
You can go to the website and configure one with your choice of colors interior etc, but if you look close at the wheels, they are really very similar to the Spyder wheels for the Z06, IMHO.

Online configurator has been up, if you want some fun spec'ing yours.

That's a lot of seats.
Unless you're absolutely loaded (and have owned Ferraris before), you're probably SOL. They're already all sold out:
"Ferrari rolled out its new 599 GTO to a select group of the Prancing Horse faithful this week, but even those with the means to cut a check for $450,000 on the spot were out of luck if they were looking to get one to park in their garage. The automaker announced at the event that all 599 examples of the new GTO have already been spoken for.
The soirée, which marked the first public outing of the 599 GTO since Ferrari officially announced the car on April 8, occurred in the Ducal Palace, which rests within a military academy located in Ferrari's hometown of Modena, Italy.
Next up for the 599 GTO is its official world reveal at the 2010 Beijing motor show."

Cost is only a negative for those who can't afford one. There's a good chance those who got it will actually make a tidy profit. Ferrari could have stuck on $100k just for laughs. Instead of selling out in 1 week, it would take 2.
