camaro as 2nd toy
Has anyone on here bought a new camaro as a second toy? If so, please give us you impressions. I do like the look of them. I realize they are a different type car than our Corvettes, and I have no plans to replace my C6, but I'll admit to thinking of one as a stablemate, to add some variety to my garage.

A back seat is ocassionally good to have. Just look at Mustang, Camaro, and Firebird sales. Ford has just about saved the company twice with the Mustang. In 1964 1/2 and again in 2005.
I would guess a significant amount of current Ford sales is due to the Mustang. Same old marketing strategy from 1964 1/2, a nice sporty car with a back seat for the kids, a 6 cylinder for you daughter or wife, and a HP V8 for the guys.
For some reason Camaro just didn't continue to generate the sales the Mustang did. Hopefully the new Camaro will carve it's notch in that market.
Yes it would be a good stablemate for your Vette.

My mom and dad just got a 2010 2SS 6 Speed. Inferno Orange w/flat black stripes. Has the Optional inferno orange and ebony interior. I really love the car. Stock for stock, it doesnt feel as fast as my vette as it is some 800lb heavier. The shifter is junk (like the old 4th gens). The paint is good, interior IMO is leaps and bounds above the vette. Has a nice stereo (boston acoustic). Really an all around nice driver. If I wouldve needed a daily driver, I wouldve picked one up over my vette. I love driving it when I get a chance.

My wife has an RS/SS A6 (400hp). It is a great car and really feels like a heavyweight C6. If you like the C6 you will likely feel at home in the Camaro. The back seat is nice enough for anyone under 5' 6", but don't plan on long trips with anyone back there.

I bought one
Just before Christmas and despite being considerably slower it's still a lot of fun.
I test drove it the day after running 9's in the Corvette and thought there wouldn't be any way it'd have any kind of "wow" factor but in a lot of ways it's more fun to drive. With the Corvette I have to be very careful on the street as it can get away from you pretty quickly but with the Camaro I'm able to plant my foot and go through the gears.
Here's an iPhone pic from two weeks ago at the track where I won a trophy for getting to the semi-finals in my first competitive race with it:

So many toys..............., so little time and money. Can't even imagine how big my garage would need to be if it were just possible.
I say go for it. You only live once.

Thanks for the replies so far. Keep them coming. My 06 C6 is an A6 and I truly enjoy it every time I drive it. Most of the use it gets is in weekend road trips with my wife. I ordered it with the automatic becauseI I have had many stick shifts thru the years, ( 61 yrs old), and I'm to that "been there - done that" point. But I just sold my 93 Ruby Coupe 6 speed manual to my son-in-law, and thinking that a 6 speed Camaro could give me more variety in that regard too.

Nope, I meant 1/4 mile - 9.950@139.267MPH. My 1/8th mile time on that run was 6.369@110.245MPH:

If you love the looks of the camaro, you'll love it. It's really a car all about looks.
For a different perspective, I actually hate how it looks and how heavy it is. I'm considering a 2011 mustang GT as a 2nd car as its styling is less extreme and it out-performs camaro in acceleration.
If you're not stuck on camaro, give the new mustang a drive. All the reviewers that have gotten a hold of it so far like it much better.
Sorry GM fans. At least I'm keeping it American

I appreciate the input LMBTom. I bought a new Mustang GT back in '85 and had a lot of fun with it. Does your user name imply you have a LeMans Blue Corvette. That's what mine is, an 06. By the way, I'm not too far away, up in Tyler.

Safety Car
My wife wants one, she barely even drives any of our cars now (full time military, takes the train which we live 1 block from to downtown Chicago and when she has to drive for work she has a government car) so I really cant justify that type of purchase plus we are already short on space with our current toys and garage space. I really like the car so I think it would be fun but just way too "un" practical...... my Z06 only sees ~1500 miles per year. I would rather upgrade one of our current cars but even then there is really nothing wrong with anything we currently have, the highest mile car we have has 36K miles
