ACR Viper record at the Nurburgring falls!!
Well just got the word..
A new 2012 GT-R ran a 7.20 at the Nurburgring!!
That's 2 seconds faster than the ACR Viper.
This was done on the full course.
This is the Fastest production time recorded by a car that has over 500cars/units produced a month.

A lot of great upgrades on the new 2012 model. Nissan promised it would be faster and better than all the previous models and they kept their word.
I know a lot of you guys might not like the GT-R but damm that is fast for an almost 4000lb car IMO.
Anyway thought some of you guys, especially the ones that own both cars would like to hear about this.

Because they didn't want to be compared to this? Pagani Zonda - The real record holder

They didn't produce that many GTRs so why the bogus claim?

Hey take that up with Nissan if you doubt it..
Pagani Zonda is not what I'd call a every day production car. $$$$$$$$
Corvettes, Vipers, Porsche's, GT-R's all pretty close IMO and you'll probably see these times lowered again by one of these 4 car in the future.
Competition is good.... All of us car guys benefit by it.

Not 100% sure yet but by the pictures it looks like they used the new Dunlops.
This is the info on the OEM 2012 GT-R tires.
The Dunlop SP SPORT MAXX GT 600 DSST CTT tires have a new compound to improve tire grip. With renewed structure and improved tread and sidewall rigidity, straight-line stability in rutted roads is enhanced.
I got a feeling they used those but I'm sure we will find out tomorrow.

I just hope GM does a good job with the exterior of the upcoming C7. I love the whole C6 platform especially the Z06. To me it is timeless. Maybe they should improve the car without dramatically changing it's appearance.
Kind of like Porsche has for the last 40+ years.

I REALLY hope GM will give us a more upscale interior.

I'm probably in the minority on this one but the Z06's interior works for me. Yes it could be made out of some better materials but as long as my butt is comfy in it then what I really care about most is performance! Of course looks are important too.
When I first bought my GT-R is sure wasn't for it's looks that's for sure but it has grown on me a lot since I first got it but it will never look as good to me as my Z06.
Holy cow it's late! Gotta go to work in the morning

Nice seats! GM could learn a thing or two there. It would be nice if GM offered an upgraded seat package for the Z cars.
Side topic...has anyone heard about a possible 500+ hp Z28 in the future?

It's quite a car, I agree with that.
If the front end wasn't so ugly (very ricer looking) and it had a true manual transmission I might be lusting after one. And I've owned several Nissan/Infiniti's, so it's not like I'm biased against them.

Highly doubt the C6 platorm in current state is gonna hit a 7:20
Gonna be tough to shed 6+ seconds, as much as I love the C6 if the ZR1 couldn't do it with 638hp the Z06 with 505 sure won't. Gotta know your limits.
Only hope would be for GM to offer near race tires as an option, ala Viper ACR......even then to knock 6 secs off would be near impossible imo.

As much as the new 2012 GTR is nice and I was driving the GTR before it even hit the streets ( that's a hint to the access I had to the car) Until the GTR gets the Launch control back on the table it will never be looked at as anything other than a great track car but on the street it won't mean much. Shame because the car is a blast but it's not even a consideration to me compared to the Z. Nissan needs to realign the repair costs also. Vette's are relatively inexpensive to repair compared to a GTR. I'm just happy the Manufacturers keep upping the ante because it means we keep getting better and better cars to drive/race. As mentioned as well by Wanderer, I am OK with the Vette interior. I need an nice external appeal, functional interior with lots of go fast goodies.
