Debating selling my old viper
Cons of selling my 2000 GTS ACR Viper
- No car payment
- Aesthetically one of the most brilliant designs (still looks better than the Gen V Viper coming out)
- Rare and exclusive
- Initial C7s will likely not be discounted if I wait another couple years
Pros:
-C7 is a new car with a warranty!
-It's great looking as well
-I can finally ride with all the creature comforts
-an easier car to drive more frequently
-It's rare and will have "wow factor" if I buy it initially for the first year or two.
I am pretty torn. My viper needs some work and I likely won't get much unless I invest some decent money to get it fixed. But I could still get a fair amount to offset some of the sticker shock of the C7. Not sure what to do...but I figured I would post about it

Wait until you can test drive the C7 and see it in person before making a decision. Either way you go, you can't lose.

What's wrong with your viper (repairs)
Personally it's such a beautiful car ...just fix it and enjoy it...
Wait three years and then get a c7 .....
Creature comforts are over rated...your cars a beast... A beauty...and it's paid for....which is always nice..
Btw..I prefer corvettes but you asked....
The c7 will be my forth new corvette

I was faced with your dilemma. Keep my 80 or buy a new one. Problem solved I decided to keep the 80 and buy a new one. Yours will both be beautiful cars and one is already paid for so keep the classic viper and get the new corvette

The C7 will be a dime a dozen easy come easy go product, how many 2000 ACR's are out there? Unless your cars is a high mileage rat I would not get rid of it...ever! Just my not so humble opinion!!

Thanks for the responses. My car isn't quite a high mileage rat but isn't a garage queen. I have had a very nice professional paint restoration (no corrosives used) done by Auto Lavish and have done the proper maintenance. However the crank pulley has come off throwing the serpentine belt and completely trashed the crank threads. I will need to have a it helicoiled and it should be good to go (cheap fix).
The option of keeping it and adding a vette later on is definitely an option too. I do love the C7 and everything I have seen about it. It is an awesome value proposition. Both Dodge and Chevy nailed the designs and interiors of the new Viper and C7.

Your Viper is a gorgeous car and it will be forever. Keep it and save up for a C7 and in a couple of years you can have both.
Interesting responses from a Corvette forum so far. The raw sex appeal of the Viper is hard to beat.

I agree. After the first year the C7 will be old news and the deals should start to be attractive.

no reason for you to drop a Viper unless your moving on up in the car world, to something more expensive and exclusive.
As others have mentioned, better to save up and buy the C7 with out trading in the viper.

By all means keep the Viper and buy a C7 when the initial fanfare wears off and high price decreases.

If it wasn't the ACR I sell, yours I keep unless there is garage space or other issues requiring a choice. Not sure which way I go then but in truth your car WITH a C7 would make a pretty killer combo for covering most every performance driving need.
I wouldn't let all the hoopla over C7 make you think deal wont be available. Was the same for C6 and a few months after introduction you could get msrp anywhere and do better many places, by the end of the first year you could get invoice pricing. I'm not expecting anything much different from C7 because if there is one thing you can count on GM to do its build enough cars to insure thats exactly what happens.

Thanks for all the solid input. I love this car club. I am having a fellow viper forum member help doing the helicoil fix and will probably wait a bit. I think you all are right...the ACR and C7 would be a killer combo.
I'll just drool for the interim!

If you LOVE the C7 so much, keep the Viper and get a C7 in a few years when you own both vehicles and buy the C7 right.
