Default Thoughts on jeep Srt8

Thoughts on the 2012+ Jeep SRT8? This thing totally slipped my mind as far as getting a new(er) vehicle to have as a daily. It's practical, sporty, and best of all AWD for the dreaded Chicago winters. Was thinking of swapping out my built G8 GT for this, but I'm unsure still on which vehicle to get. Was thinking of getting a 13' ZL1 as my daily too.

I've always liked them...Well respected on the road - SRT-8 version just looks badass...For a daily drive vehicle not a bad choice at all...

Jeep has definitely stepped up the quality/fit/finish with the latest GC SRT-8, it's a rocket of an SUV!! The 2012+ models also have better tire choices for all season use. I'm sure you already know this but they are a bit thirsty..... well worth the price of fun though!!!!

A ZL1 as a daily driver in Chicago?

An AWD SRT8 Jeep would be a much better choice.

I DD my built G8 right now... It did ok last winter. 4 summers tires held pretty well. Got stuck a couple of times, but nothing 430rwhp and trq can't fix. Getting winter tires for the 1st time this year after owning the car for 5 years.

I'll be in the market for a new wintertime DD next year, I think. Personally, I think the SRT would be an excellent choice, except for the fuel mileage.

As said earlier the 12+ models have better everything. The interior is also a much needed upgrade from the 11 and earlier versions. I've considered this vehicle as well.

If towing is any concern I would get the 2014+ with the 8 speed transmission. I've got a 2013 SRT8 JGC and it is the best all-around vehicle I've ever owned. 25K miles and going strong!

Doesn't the 14 also have a much nicer center stack with larger screen?

I have a '14 Grand Cherokee Summit Diesel. I didn't get the SRT8 as I off-road, but the new GC's are amazing for the money. Ride's great, comfortable, one of the best info-tainment systems in the world and all the high end gizmo's mercedes have like adaptive headlights, adaptive cruise etc..

Super satisfied with the truck.

They're pretty much awesome. Just expensive. The 12-13s look better than the 14s, but the 8.4N is a nice infotainment setup. The 8 speed makes a little difference, I'm not ure that I totally trust it yet though.

The 12-13s are starting to creep to right around $40k. I'd have a clean, low mileage one in the upper 30s, maybe lower 40s if it was perfect.

Just keep in mind, its like 5000 pounds and handles like a pig. A very good pig for an SUV, but still a pig due to its massive size/weight.

I had an '11 Overland V8 4x4 and loved it. I'd have another in a heartbeat.

That's all in the eye of the beholder. I have a '14 jeep srt and think it looks great. Infotainment is awesome as is the 8 speed, which is the same transmission used by BMW, Porsche and other high end manufactures.

I think the 8 speed is great and am amazed at how fast and smooth the transmission shifts. Mileage could be better, but I'm averaging around 18mpg mostly highway but car is barely broken in with <3000 miles. They are a bit pricey though.

Your G8 on snow tires will thoroughly destroy a Grand Cherokee SRT8 on summer tires in the winter. It won't even be close.

The SRT Jeep is awesome, but if it were my money I would get the Diesel Grand Cherokee.

You'd still be better off with the G8 on snow tires vs. a GC SRT-8 with summer tires. I drove my S4 (on a set of Blizzaks) through 8" of snow last year with zero issues..... sure it was leaving tracks in the snow from the underbody but it went through it like nothing.

I loved my '13 GC srt8 and looking around for another one. It does everything very well, even handles well for what it is. The motor makes sweet music and somehow it runs like stink.. The only reason I let mine go was I just didn't drive it much once I got my cts-v coupe but it made for the perfect garage.

You won't regret getting one I promise.

I love them. I just wish they looked more aggressive. Even I miss the styling cues sometimes when I see one on the road.

Do the dealerships deal at all on these? If so, what kind of deals are to be had?

We are looking at a CPO 2012 Mercedes GL550 for the wife, but I wanted to give these a hard look first
