I like the ZL1 a lot. If I get bored with my Z06, it'll be on my short list of vehicles that would replace it. This one was at a local event.
I'd have to do something with the rims, though.

I am undecided between a Z06 and ZL1. I guess what I am most impressed with on the ZL1 is how attainable the upper levels of performance are. In other words, from what I have watched/seen on different video's, if you push the ZL1 a bit too far it does not appear to be as apt to make you pay for it. So far from what I have read and seen the Z06 does not appear to be as forgiving, but it also has higher levels as well before you have to worry about it. I do think the Z06 is better looking and more exotic, but like you I have kids (6 and 9) that I *could* at least put in the back seats for a weekend ride to the soccer games!

My brother in law has a new M6 ZL1. It's an amazing car but it's not my style, personally. I love the looks on the outside, other than there are 1400 of them in my town alone. it just sits too high and rides too much like a new caddy for me. Doesn't feel muscly enough. Plenty of power though and it can really lay it down. Here's a pic of my bro's for reference.

I considered one until I sat in it. Big step down from Z06 even if it has 97% of the track performance.
Backseat is big enough for a backpack, not a living being. Maybe a parakeet.

Excellent car for the money. At some point they will be 20% off and then become the most capable car for the money period.
i really like the 1LE SS too. Just not enough space for all of them!

I like my 13 ZL1 as much as my GS. The 17 is supposed to be leaps and bounds better.

I owned the 5th gen ZL1...I enjoyed that car, I wish I didn't sell it. The new ZL1 looks badass and is a monster on the road. I want one. I have test driven the SS and is was smooth and spacious, I think the ZL1 is a good choice with kids.
Test drive the car and if you like it buy it. I will probably buy one.

I also walked away from it away after sitting in it: the gun-slit window sizing is absolutely not for me. Very poor visibility.

As others have said, go sit in one. If you can overcome the largely $25K base interior and reduced visibility then go for it. I like the exterior, performance, and price but couldn't do the interior. If looking at muscle cars now would probably grab a Hellcat -- lots in the mid 50s now. Had one next to me for an extended visit on a nice hill country hiway and looked good.

If you need a backseat it's absolutely the best option. The Hellcat's lack of road course ability and the disappointing performance of the Mustang GT350r make the ZL1 a great choice. And as already stated, find one at X% off and you'll have one hell of a track weapon for $60K.

Given the temps where you live, if you plan to track the car the ZL1 would serve you very well and would be my choice by a longshot.

BTW - the GT350R has no back seat

It is an awesome ride for the money. Plenty of power and a great track day weapon right out of the box. Yes there are a lot of camaros on the street, to the untrained eye. Those in the know can spot a ZL1 from a mile away.
When the wife's lease is up we are getting a ZL1 1LE.

I test drove one, it was used with only 2200 miles a 15. I was in love with it but the fooking dealer would not budge on the price which was 5K over KBB. Always had a soft spot for the Z28 since 77 and in 1980 got one and it was love LOL... I lost interest with the IROC... hated the look.
