Could be. At this point it could be a drivers race. Ok on the twisties we will still kick a mustangs butt, on the straights no so much. Base level C7's need a bump in HP in this war!

Because a corvette should be able to womp a mustangs butt. I don't race and don't truly care myself but MANY do. Plus I do long for a bit more power myself, not 650 but a nice natural 525 would have me interested in an upgrade.

There appear to be plenty of car choices now-a-days can run near or just below 4 sec 0-60MPH. There are only a few that "look" truly fast....Corvette is one of them.

So there is that.

I would still prefer the C7 even if the Mustang was a full second quicker from 0-60, the two cars are in different leagues alltogether

We have reached the point where power is no longer the factor, it's traction. If you read the article ford did some interesting things to make the stang achieve this other then it's 460hp.

"In Drag Strip mode, the engine torque doesn’t drop when you’re shifting," said Mustang chief engineer Gene Widmann in a statement. "You get peak engine torque and horsepower straight through."

A rusty old 4 door with street drag tires and even a slightly built big block can give the C7 a run to 60 too, but so what? Same goes for a tweaked WRX, or any number of heavily leaned-on civics that are out there. Which car would you rather be driving?

If 0-60 is the “end-all be-all”, there are many ways to beat the C7’s time for a LOT less money.

Competition it what's brought us to where we are. Now that the pony car and Camaro are direct sales Competition with the base Stingray it just makes sense something is needed. Tweaked cars are not part of the picture. I have seen an old chevy truck that would kick a new Z06's butt. Manufactures do care what the 0-60 is, It sells cars.

If this were the early to mid 2000's I'd agree. Go sit in a new Mustang and drive one. They have been called up to the Majors.

I wouldn't bet against the mustang in the twisties these days either. Car is a totally different beast compared to what we always thought they were.

Owning each I have to agree. Whether Corvettes owners like it, or not the lowly Mustang has come along way.

It just makes it more likely it is a driver's race than a car race. Have seen many high powered and great cornering cars embarrassed on track by some guy driving a 30 year old gutted VW GTI because he knows how to get the car around the track a lot faster than the driver of the fancy car.

Totally agree about competition improving the breed. Just was trying to say that straight-line 0-60 is but ONE facet of performance, and I think it would be silly for someone to say that since a Mustang GT can now come close or match the Stingray's 0-60, that it is now "just as good".

So very true. I remember back in the Auto-X days, an unassuming man (not me, unfortunately) in a nearly stock civic would often best the times of many sports cars being run, just due to his driving skill. Impressive.

So the mustang is a better bang for the buck ? I thought that was the Corvette's thing...

And to further brighten your day, this article is linked on the page of the Mustang article : http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars...vette-updates/

Teensy! they say.
