Most mismatched cars with their engines?
While watching some ageing reviews of the mustang GT 350 I was thinking of how much I wish Ford would put that amazing flat plane crank engine in a better car... It just seems like too much of an "average" at best car to wrap around such an impressive engine and it got me thinking of what some other examples there might be of this being done. Anybody have thoughts on this? It does seem like most candidates for the great engine/bad car category would be American cars but the one example that came to mind of the exact opposite occurring is probably the mitsubishi eclipse... That car has always been the very essence of "rice burner" to me. Implies it is sporty only to have a crappy 4 cl engine

Honestly, GT350 seems perfect. It took over the segment that has been owned by the M3 for years.

Saweeeet engine and transmission combo. Massive and very effective braking
Installed in an overweight mostly average handling package

The new Ford Raptor is another one. I disagree about the GT350 though....

At that point in time, I owned an '85 Firebird SE, and one of my friends owned a GN. I got to drive the GN, once, and commented that it was too bad I couldn't have gotten the Turbo V-6 in my 'Bird.
A couple of years later, Pontiac got the contract to pace the Indy 500, and they built a batch of commemorative cars, with the Turbo V-6 installed. Unfortunately, they never offered the engine package as a regular option.

GM SUVs with the 3.6L, it' TERRIBLE for those things. It has no low end grunt, and revs quickly. When it revs it hits a vtec like thing where it then blows the tires off. It' either slow as a pig, or laying waste to the pathetic tires it comes with. Flat out terrible.
I think the GT350 has a great engine, and is in a great car. Ford has been killing it the past few years with the best sports stuff out there. The GT350 is one of those cars that will gondown in legend as one of the greats. Great car to buy once the new gt500 comes out and prices drop a bit.

Beast engine when modded, decent transmission, crappy IRS and a several decade old chassis. Basically everything on the car needs upgraded to handle it's capabilities. Made for a hell of a ride though.

Bought a Merkur Xr4ti 5-speed new in '87. It was kind of a quirky car, but I liked it. The engine in it was a low-compression, turbocharged 2.3 litre. Laggy as heck, but once on the turbo, was kind of fun. Really wish that it had been offered stateside with the V8 that they could get in South Africa.
