Auto trans whining when I start out!

Help Please...Auto trans whining when I start out!
My wife and I are on a trip to Montana coming from Lubbock today after visiting with my son. We planned on going up Pikes Peak so we are staying in a motel in the Colorado Springs area.
When we pulled in to eat this evening I noticed my automatic trans in my 05 Silverado is making a whining noise when I back up or start out but runs down the road not making a sound.
I know what could be wrong. Should I turn around and try to make it back to Lubbock or go on to Montana but not go up Pikes Peak? Suggestions would be greatly appreciated ASAP!
I posted in the C-5 section because I also own a 99FRC!
Anyone know of a good shop to take it to?

Even though you own a C5, the vehicle in question is not one. Moving this over to Other Cars for some assistance.
