Farm tractors
My son just bought a house with 10 acres. I would like to get him a small tractor that won’t break the bank but can get somethings done. I have no knowledge of farm implements, so I’m asking for some help.
There seems to be a lot of working tractors locally from the 40s, 50s and 60s that are for sale less than $3000.
Uses desired: plowing up rough ground to farther smooth out for planting lawn areas,
spreading fertilizer and lime over lawn, drilling holes for posts and small trees. Dragging downed trees and branches among other things.
I assume a 3 point hitch is always needed however, what other features should I look for in a small tractor? Hp? Trans?
How do you inspect?
I notice a lot of Old Ford 8 and 9n tractors, one boasted about a Stewart something or other hi/low trans?
Some pointers please?
Thank you,
Rich

We had a 1945 Ford 9N that ran great. Just keep up on maintenance. It had a front hydraulic dump and a rear 3 point system. We had a manure spreader, tiller, grater, cutter, plow and a few other attachments for it. I learned to drive on that thing. It was also easy to work on.
