Best selling sports car?
Apologies if this is not the right place to aak this question. I noticed Guiness book of records list the Miata as the best selling 2 seat spots car of all time with a million sales. Now I am not a math major but I did graduate grade 6 and I thought 1.6 million is bigger than 1 million. I also went outside and counted the num of seats in my corvette. It was indeed 2. Perhaps other forum members could check my math?

I picked up a 94 Miata as a toy to fix up. When my C6 was hit and damaged I pushed it in to daily driver service. Turns out it’s a blast to drive. Rock solid reliable and fun to take out on the local back roads and beat the snot out of it. Throw some snow tires on it and I can leave my 4x4 home most days in winter.
I sold the C6 and now have a z51 C7. I kept the Miata in daily driver service and I hate to admit this but when I go out for a nice romp in the back roads more often than not I take the Miata.

I think mustang probably has that honor. I'd argue mustang ia every bit as much a sports car as miata, just it has power too

I've had 2 C6 vettes and a Miata, much different cars but both excelled in intended purposes. I prefer the Miata in lower speed backroad drives. Vettes make better highway and high speed cruisers/track cars.
Driving a c6 Z06 below 50-60mph and the vette felt bored way to much untapped potential. Other hand a Miata with the top down doing 50-60 on a Backroad feels fun.
Most of the ghey comments come from people who havent ever owned a Miata, ignorance. If looks werent its strong point in the past the new ND Miatas specially the RF have gone a long way to remedy that.

My GF has an '18 RF hard top convertable with the BBS wheels, Brembos and 6spd. That car is fun as hell to drive...I don't care what anyone says (they most likely haven't driven one). My only gripe about the car is the lack of cabin space (duh) along with barely being able to fit comfortably being 6ft tall. But I can make do, and it's still fun to rip around in.

While true on the price....... The Miata will get smoked in a straight line by the C4 vette but in terms of chassis, it's a better driver's car by a healthy margin. All of the girl/gay comments aside........ it's a very rewarding car to drive for those who appreciate it. I've never owned one (have owned 3 C4 Corvettes, one of which was a 1996 Grandsport) but have driven a handful that have belonged to different friends....... definitely will leave a smile on your face after some seat time!!!

LOL the C4 doesn't even compare to the Miata chassis wise. We're talking about a somewhat clank-y chassis construction stymied by a targa design that wasn't GM's original intention against a Japanese light-weight purpose-built convertible. Track days and auto-x most C4s aren't going to hold the candle that the Miata is lighting. Sure there is a power argument for the C4 but the LT1 and L98 is not becoming the most serviceable nor cheapest thing to work on in recent times. Plus the Miata's aftermarket has long addressed a lot of the car's short comings whereas even C4s still get hit with a massive "Corvette tax".
Sure the C4 is a great car with it's own storied racing history and the Miata is a great car with an on-going racing history, but if you gave me a choice between the two I would probably gravitate towards a Miata, and I own a Corvette. I'd be all over a clean NA Miata as a weekend track car considering how cheap they are and their lightness over NBs and NCs which gradually got heavier as they added more comforts.
The gay comments always crack me up because the Miata literally is THE definition of a sports car even more so than what the Corvette has become; light weight, sporty design (the C7 has arguable gone the way of more exotic design features whereas the Miata has stayed truer to it's roots), and easily accessible. People should really get outside of their comfort zones more.

Miata = Japanese MGB that won't leave you stranded. I drove one when they first hit our shores. Nice little car but not one I would own.

People talk about the chassis of the miata because that's all it has. They have no power so you can pay attention to the chassis. Reality is, an lt1 Corvette outdoes it in every way. You might not notice the chassis on the c4, but that's because you've got so much more power. The only advantage miata has is its tiny size, the short wheelbase and light weight does let it take different lines and change directions very quickly.
With the prices of Miatas going up so much, a c4 nakes a lot more sense in a lot of cases. Around here you cant buy a miata fir under a grand like you used to be able to. Murata made a lot of sense when they were crazy cheap, but now that people seem to think they're desirable and worth more... not as much.
