IT'S ALIVE!! Project Silver Streak
Many of you read about the salvage Corvette for sale in Washington listed on the forum back in December. Well, Amy and I decided to roll the dice and purchase it to turn into a track car.
After purchasing the car for $20,000, we dropped it off at Wilsonville Chevrolet to start to work out the electrical problems. The computer was showing about 40 different codes which precluded the car from starting without being "hot wired." After many replaced electronic parts, sensors and computers, the car is reasonably operational. It still has a few glitches, but tremendous progress has been made.
I brought it home last Friday and was finally able to put a few miles on it to see how the engine and drivetrain performed. I'm pleased to report that it runs like an LS2 should.
Saturday and Sunday was spent cleaning up the interior and removing carpet and insulation that were absolutely water-logged. It was quite evident from the muddy residue that the "story" that was told about this cars "swim" had been soft-pedaled. Nonetheless, it was great to finally be able to drive it.
Today, we dropped it off at the body shop to have some work done and get (hopefully) the last electrical problems resolved.
For those that don't know, this is a 2005 Z51 with 35K miles.
Weekend work.
The majority of the body damage was on the front fascia.
A wet, smelly pile of crap removed from the interior.
Mud in the passenger side.
Mud on the driver's side.
Boxes of parts waiting to be installed.
Thankfully, I have a wonderful, supportive wife who constantly provides encouragement when I get frustrated. When I see her enthusiasm for this project, it really makes it worthwhile!

As well it should! In fact, I argued about calling this project FRANKENSTEIN because I have been able to find so many "lightly" used parts from other CF members to help put it together.
It's amazing what you can find in the C6 parts section!

I'm researching different options for the roll cage, fire supression etc. Then seats and harnesses.
We want to have it ready for training, autocross and HPDE's this year.
