I've ordered a PAL unit for my car. Any recommendations on trusted installers in Portland, especially handling of center console removal. Thanks.
if you were closer to Sattle I'd offer to do it for you. I have a PXAMG unit in my car that does the same thing as the new PAL (although not as nicely) and the installation is practically identical. If you do a search in the C6 general section there is a link in one of the recent PAL threads with a PDF file of the GM installation steps for dealers. Lots of pictures and detail.
The week being particularly busy for me, I couldn't wait to get it installed and took it to Lee Johnson Chevrolet in Kirkland, WA. It's certainly the largest Chevy dealership I've seen in the area and they do a great job on taking care of Corvettes. I showed them the PAL and instructions and they estimated 1.5 hours of shop time and charged me about $160. In the end it took them more like 2 hours to do the install.
They did a very good job on it and I'm very satisfied. Judging from the instructions the installation involved removing the center console, splicing a wire or two and drilling a hole in the glove compartment if you want to store your ipod there. This is opposed to the center armrest; the glovebox being more ideal in my opinion as it can be locked (I somewhat miss that feature on the C5).
I've done a HUD install on my previous C5 and that took me about a day to complete; given my hourly wages I think I made a good call in outsourcing the install this time
