Default how could?

My son started his first day of High school on tuesday, his first class of the day is Guess what?????
Auto shop First quarter they work on engines then 2nd quarter they do brakes. (he doesnt have it 2nd semester, he has weight lifting)

so we go in to the open house (you go to each class & listen to the teacher talk about what they are going to teach & what the students are expected to learn) first thing out of the teachers mounth is I HATE cars, they are a pricey, hunk of junk. :iono::iono::iono::iono::iono: as you guys know my husband, The kids & I all love cars.

Once the teacher found out that my son did know something about cars, he told us that he can be the student leader for the class, showing the kids which wrench or what ever to use to get parts off.

How can someone teach students something when they hate the subject of what they are teaching?

My nephew had this same teacher a few years back (he took over the auto shop 4yrs ago, after the last teacher retired after teaching 27yrs (that teacher loved his job ( I know because I was one of his students))

They dont have text books in the class they are expected to go to www.CDXetextbook.com every night to look over the stuff they looked at via the hour they have.

but the good thing is ( i Dont know how its even possible) our high school auto shop is one of the best in the state. & hold some of the top honors for auto competions through out the state.

Teacher needs to keep his/her mouth shut about their personal problems. Not a good way to encourage others AT ALL! idiot...

At least you have an auto shop class available -- most high schools don't. As for the instructor's attitude problem, consider meeting with the principal and describing your perceptions. In parallel, I did that concerning an incompetant band director a few years ago, and his contract was not re-newed the following year. There is no reason for our kids to suffer such classroom "role models."

several parents already complained over the years, & basically were told find a better instructor for less pay.

(thats not going to happen)

Default Inspiring?

I'm down here in little 'ole Eugene, but behavior like this really steams me! Having been in the training industry for 7-8 years, one of the most important "secrets" to being an effective instructor is ENTHUSIASM!!!!!!! I'll bet that guy really got those kids excited about class, didn't he? Sounds to me like the school, and students, might be better off without him, regardless of the money issue. On the flip side, sounds like your son has a nice opportunity to provide a little leadership to the class.............................just my $.02 worth.

I don't know how things are in Wa., but down here in Or. we don't produce Auto Shop instructors anymore.

Haven't since about 1990.

I wuz one of the last to go through OSU's program in 1989.

Sorry your guy presents himself that way.

Perhaps he should find another gig.
