Considering the ECS mail-order tune. I was wondering if there's any local shops (Kent WA) that would be able to do the same/better tune for similar price (very new to the game, if the $150 ECS tune is something that can't be beat for price just let me know). I also have a gift certificate from a local shop (its not in my hands yet so I don't know which shop) for a free dyno run, should I do this before or after the mail-order tune if I go that route? How much does a run on the dyno cost these days?

Approximately $400, depending on the shop. It does cost more, but then again, the tune is specific to your car.
I can highly recommend Wong's Performance Engineering Inc. (Tom Wong) in Vancouver WA. He does excellent work.
Okay, so, I guess I need some clarification of definitions. In my mind, a "dyno run" consists of putting your car on the dyno and getting the results. Am I incorrect, and that also includes tuning more often than not, or is that a separate deal? The gift certificate I have is worded 'one run on the dyno' or something like that (I still don't have it in front of me), makes me wonder just what that entails.
The best way to find out what the gift certificate covers is wait until you get it and then call the shop where it is to be used. If it is only for one run on the dyno to show how much power you have you could ask how much extra to throw in a tune while it is on the dyno. Hope to see you on April 17th.

Sounds like you want a dyno tune: your car tuned while on dyno. A dyno run can be interpreted as just measuring hsp/torque without a tune. I'm betting the gift certificate is for a dyno run, which is relatively cheap. I have been to dyno days were they just do a dyno run - 2 to 3 pulls and no tuning for $50-$75. A dyno tune is more expensive - probably $400+.
I'd call ECS though. Doug at ECS is an excellent tuner - probably one of the best in the country. I had my car tuned at the shop (not on the dyno), but I have heard nothing but positives about his mail order tunes, and its a reasonale price. Plus they will turn it around the same day and mail back out. I'm betting they also know of a tuner local to you that can help out.
So, I figure I'll use the gift certificate here shortly for a run on the dyno, send my PCM to Doug at ECS for a tune, then probably pay for a second run on the same dyno to get some accurate data on how much difference it made.
Thanks for the help folks, though if anyone knows a local Vette-friendly shop, I'd love to hear about them!

You'll be happy with an ECS tune. Love mine. What mods do you have to the car? Make sure you let them know.

Just got the car, from a dealer who didn't know much about it, but so far I've identified it as a BBK poster child.
BBK CAI, BBK throttle body, BBK intake manifold, BBK shorty headers. Haven't yet gotten a look at the exhaust system, or pulled my FRCs up to see what heads its got. My wife drives this car to work so I end up on the computer learning about it while its sitting in a parking lot.......
Okay, the gift certificate is in my hand. "This certificate is good for one free dyno pull" at Blood Enterprises in Auburn, WA (just down the highway from me).
Anyone heard of this shop? They have a website, http://www.bloodenterprises.com/ that seems well done, but anyone can pay a Flash designer to make a web page. I'd love to hear some personal experiences if anyone has any.
I have to tell you that Tom Wong is one of the premier tuners in this part of the country. He'll run your car on his dyno before and after and show you the difference. It will cost you but you get what you pay for and your car will be custom tuned to the way you want to drive it.
He posts here on the PNW forum ... look him up TJ Wong. It is well worth the drive down to his shop.
I've been running on his tune for more than 40,000 miles and couldn't be more pleased.
