So Todd, what would you say to the owner of this fine performance automobile???
Dean
I would be laughing so hard I wouldn't be able to make any comment to the toothless, tobacco chewing, hog squealing, banjo pickin', deliverance watchin' throwback of a driver.
I think that we are kind of hijacking this thread a little.
But continuing with this theme, I have a little challenge thinking of a front wheel drive car being a serious performance vehicle. I think that with all of the things that is required of the fwd car at the track, it is just too much stress and failure will occur.
A close friend of mine just had an "experience" at pacific with his fwd car. The front outer cv joint went and caused him to loose directional control in turn 6. Last year, on the same corner of the car, the hub came appart.
I'm not saying that these cars can't be a lot of fun or that they can't be quick, just that they are demanding more stress on front end parts that would not be the case if the drive wheels are not also the stearing/braking axle.
By the way, the car did an amazing job of protecting him from injury.
I guess I am saying that in my mind, a performance vehicle is one with rear wheel drive.
And you're right; there are snobs in just about every club. That's one of the reasons I don't belong to one.
Not so sure about this, seems something along the black kettle saying here. Oh well, in any event, joining a club was part of the Corvette experience for me, just like the forum. To me, a club is just another opportunity to hang out with other like minded individuals. Ok, maybe I won't hang out with all of them, but they are not going to ruin my fun either.
I love the heritage, history, and following of Corvettes. Those things are true of other marques as well, but I relate more with the only American made sports car.
He was referring to the typical ricer with a "fart" can driven by a pimply-faced teenager who doesn't own a belt and can't figure out which is the front of a hat....
P.S. Am I too old for you to adopt?
You guys do realize you are talking about the next generation of car guys don't you. While I am not into what they are into, I do understand what they are doing.
I grew up in Roseburg, graduated in 1983, and the establishment was always trying to shut down the younger generations cruising. They even flipped the teenagers the bird by creating a special cruise and only allowing old cars to participate. This intergenerational snubbing is the biggest snobbery I see in the car world, and it is pretty common.
