Detail shop recommendation: Metropolitan Detail
I just picked up my Z06 after having paint detailing work performed at Metropolitan Detail in Lynwood. These guys are awesome, they take the time required to get amazing results. I will post pics as soon as they e-mail them to me, but the finish on my car is finally how I've always wanted it to be (I bought the car with 1142 miles on it, so someone else had already "broken in" the clear coat with lots of dealership washes). They specialize in black paint, and always have some very nice cars in their shop (today there was a 2001 Lamborghini Diablo and a 2009 Ferrari F430 Scuderia). In addition they do the best protective film installation that I've ever seen, as close to undetectable as you'll find... that's next on my list.

The total was about $600, it broke down into:
compounding $150
exterior machine polish $195
multi stage polishing (black paint) $100
wax upgrade (Dodo Supernatural, 2 coats) $125
They spent 2 days on the car, lots of labor involved!

You should try THE SHINE SHOP , they are great they are mobile and they will come to you. A few forum members have used them and have been very happy. Give Garrett a call 425-220-7130 .

Yep, they do chip repair as well. I just talked to John (he's one of the owners and did the work on my car) and he said certain colors, notably silver and metallics are difficult to match perfectly. Black is one of the easiest colors to match, which is great for me
You can give John a call at 425 672-8140 and ask him more specific questions and get ideas on pricing. Also, their web site is

I finally figured out how to upload photos, it's easier first thing in the morning after coffee vs. late at night... The first 4 pics are before any work was done, the second 4 are right after compounding (so lots of swirls), and then the last 5 are after 3 stage polishing and 2 coats of Dodojuice Supernatural wax.

I'm sure they do great work as well, the only reason I went with Metropolitan is because black is such a difficult color to really do well. The compounding creates a lot of dust, and if done incorrectly can do more damage than good. If my car were silver, it would be a lot simpler and I would of considered something like a mobile detailer as an alternative. It would definitely be nice to have the detailer come to your house vs. sitting in rush hour 405 traffic

I would have to agree with you. As part of the high end detailing community John Kleven with Metropolitan Details is the man! I have talked with him numerous times and even met up with him. He's given me a lot of guidance and pointers for some polishing techniques. He's even recommended people to me as well. If you guys are further south than that you can also bring them to A Detailed Finish...
