Default Gone For Three Weeks

Tomorrow we fly to London for 5 nights and then catch a Seabourn cruise to ST. Petersburg, Russia with a stop in Warnemunde (Berlin) Germany, and Tallinn, Estonia. After St Petersburg it's off to Helsinki and finally to Copenhagen where we disembark. Its an 11 day cruise with no tipping allowed and all adult beverages are free of charge. My kind of R&R.

The stay in London should be interesting since we are staying at the Grosvenor Square Marriott which is right next to the American Embassy where a mob of Muslims were protesting the slaying of OBL yesterday, shouting death to America.

Hopefully we'll make it back without any scars. If I have internet access I'll see if I can post some pictures.

Sounds fascinating, Fred.
You should rent some hot wheels and give us an Autobahn report.
Looking forward to pics and reports.

I think this trip calls for an Autobahn run in an s4 if you can get your hands on one. Have fun. Don't worry to much about the Muslim's usually they stop protesting if there is an actual America around. Either that or they chop said American's head off.... at least you will end up on the news in that case.

My wife, the tour guide, has us there for most of a day. Hopefully they will let us snap pictures.

But I'm really looking forward to London, my home away from home. I was lucky enough to be stationed just north of London (RAF Mildenhall) for 4-1/2 years back in the day when Vietnam was boiling over. I loved that tour of duty. And during my long aviation career with Exxon I use to get back to London two or three times a year almost every year. It's still my favorite place to visit. I love the pubs.

We're leaving tomorrow for 3 weeks. First stop is Brescia, Italy for the Mille Miglia. Saw it 10 years ago and still near the top of my list. After the flag off on Thursday, we're going to a little south of Sienna to watch the cars flying by while we sip wine at a sidewalk cafe

Arrived in London safely after 9-1/2 hour flight. Damn, that flight was torture; I think I would rather be water-boarded. And after arrival it took 40 minuted to get off the 747. But the worst part was going through customs. That took 1 hour to get through that line. After that, everything went smooth. As the taxi pulled into the Marriott, lo and behold, I see a nice C5 parked on the adjacent street. It was nice to see a bit of Americana in jolly old England. Of course, the American Embassy is right across thge street. That might have something to do with it.

Sounds like a wonderful trip Fred. Don't forget to visit the Imperial War Museum in London if you haven't already done so. Duxford is supposed to have wonderful air museum as well.

If you get to Rugby (kind of like visiting Seattle and taking a side trip to White Center) check out and take a picture for me of the Northfield Home for Unwed Mothers where I was born. (Needed to be near my mother at the time you know?) That might explain why Poodle Girl keeps calling me a bas... well, you know how he can get...

Other than that the only thing I might suggest - and as you've probably experienced during your tour of duty - don't expect much from the food.

So what prompted this whole trip idea anyway?

Sounds like a really cool trip!
London has always been my favorite city to visit. For Air museums my fav was the Royal Air Force Museum @ Hendon. Loved the displays and the history. And of course all the pubs
