Default Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance

For those of you who enjoy classic cars, check out this wonderful collection of photos from this years event.

http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/galle...ble-Beach.html

There's a lot of photos of some incredible cars so it could take some time.

I used to love to go to Pebble Beach. Our first visit to the concours was in 1979 and I recall remarking to my wife that I could never afford any of those cars. Nowadays I can't even afford the price of admission just to look at the cars I still can't afford.

Some great classics to be seen here. Note the collection of the Ferrari GTOs. I've heard that 21 (out of 32) of these valuable cars were at the event. I think the value of a 250 GTO may exceed $25 million. EACH.

I too went decades ago. Agree with you , the price of admission will keep me from every going again

Some of those cars show up (for free viewing) at RTC. My favorite was the 1957 Aston Martin 24hr LeMans car. First car to hit 195mph at the race. The real thing at RTC! Then we had a 1957 Ferrari race car. Plus others. With this in my back yard, why do I need to go south unless I am looking to buy (not here).

We went last year and really enjoyed the experience. We can't afford any of the cars either but I always wanted to go and it will not get any cheaper nor I any younger. The entire experience was outstanding and we are both glad we splurged and went.
Tip, get there as early as possible on Sunday morning and avoid the HUGE crowds!

Indeed we are fortunate enough to have some people around here that share our enthusiasm for very significant and wonderful historic cars and have the means to afford to own them. Even better, we have the opportunity to actually see and hear them up close and personal by way of venues like the Saturday morning gatherings at RTC.

But Pebble Beach and, by association, the Monterey Historics are pretty special. There's a lot of history to both events and while I am fully aware that many of our local friends show or race their cars every year down there, I think you have to be there to understand what a magical week that is. Even one '57 Ferrari race car is a great thing to see, but at Monterey, one can probably expect to see several of them. The ASton Martin race car? Absolutely, a great car to see. At Monterey in 1989 - I think it was - nearly every historic Aston Martin that ever turned a wheel in anger was there, all displayed in a facade setting of the LeMans pits with most of the surviving team members in attendance (Shelby, Salvadori, Moss, and even Sir David Brown himself)

Yes, if you're looking to buy something, there are several auctions that offer some things that you may never see anywhere else, but to my mind, that's not the best reason to attend Monterey in August.

That said, after years of attending the Monterey event, i'm perfectly content now to just drop by Redmond Town Center on the odd Saturday. There are some great people and some great cars to be seen there, and, as you say, all for free.

I get the feeling you were somehow taking my remarks to downplay the RTC gathering. I sure hope not. It's a great event in itself.

Not in the least! I truly enjoy the things you write here. I can only hope to go to Monterey for this event some day. As it is I have my sites set on Amelia Island since that is my old stomping grounds. Too bad that event did not exist prior to my relocating here years ago.
