I received an email from OnStar today notifying me of a change to their Terms and Conditions. The short story is that they can share the information they gather on your driving to law enforcement, public safety officials, credit card processors, and/or third parties conducting marketing initiatives for OnStar. I called them about this and they said yes it's true. I also asked if they share any of this information with insurance companies, and they said yes they do with certain companies that they have agreements with, State Farm being one of these. I asked specifically if they track vehicle speed and they said they don't, but they have GPS tracking, which would give them ground speed as well.
I don't know about you all, but this is big brother out of control. I currently have 2 vehicles with OnStar and I'm seriously considering cancelling both. I almost cancelled today, but I've learned not to make decisions when I'm mad. So I'll think it over and decide later in the week.

About the only changes is they will be collecting information even if you are cancelled. Understand OnStar data is only a snapshot in time, they do not monitor 24/7, that today is impossible. The data they sell has no personnel information associated to it. All it says is at this date, at this time, at this location an OnStar equiped car was running this speed.
Why would they want to sell this data, there is money to be made. Advertizing companies will use the data to place billboards. Police?, easy where to setup patrols. Insurance, none of the data will do them any good. Can they get specific data about you, not without a court order and they are not going to get that to track your driving habits.
Bill O'Riley is claiming he has forced OnStar to change their new policy..........after all he says he is more powerful than the President or Congress. ;^)
