The polished aluminum wheels on my Z16 have been getting corrosion pits on them. I took a wheel to Steve's Custom Wheels in Bellevue to get his advice. He said that the factory clear coat is so thin it is almost non-existent. He said the pits are caused by rock chips. He recommended that I have them completely polished including the barrel and then have them powder coated clear. He doesn't offer this service but he did recommend a place in South Park called Show Quality Metal refinishing. Have any of you used clear powder coat on aluminum wheels? Are there any negatives to doing this? I also was recommended to Cascade Wheel in Lynnwood? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks!

I have not heard of anyone either but I would be interested in having my 87 wheels powder coated in white.
Last week I took the car down to Seattle Wheel Service in Kent to have my driver side wheels repaired as I hit a pot hole hard and bent those two wheels. They did a great. I asked them about their other services and they can handle anything regarding wheels, including high end vehicles/wheels. They have their own paint booth and do polishing and powder coating. Check out their website, and give them a call. I know Mike has used them in the past when they were located in Ballard, but they recently moved to their new Kent location. Their contact information is below:

Thanks for the info, Dave. They are pretty close to my house so I might look into that. I usually spend two days at the beginning of summer polishing my aluminum wheels and then another 1 1/2 days in fall to protect them for the winter. It's a lot of work that I may look into outsourcing... (must be getting old; it's not as much fun as I used to think it was).
I had thought about getting the barrels of the wheels powdercoated since this probably wouldn't discolor with the high-heat generated on the track. I'll have to talk to them.
