Bowling Green

Maybe I missed them, but were there any captions or other descriptions of what was photographed? Where was that display that you showed on the 2nd day? Looked like a nice collection of Vettes and related items.

Day2 - What a difference a day makes! Rain almost all the way from Worley all the way to Billings, MT! But we're here! Most of today's photos are from the stop at the Ressler Corvette collection in Bozeman. Pictured are the oldest surviving 1953 C1 - VIN 003!. Also shown is the very first (VIN #001) C6 ZR1, which you may have seen cross the block at Barrett-Jackson for a cool 1 Mil. Randy left us tonight, staying behind in Bozeman and heading back home tomorrow. Dave will be staying with us in Billings tonight and is heading back home in the morning. Of course, April & Pat are continuing on with us for the rest of our Bowling Green adventure! We have tons of pics that will be posted to the website as I find time!
Day 3 started with a rainy and cold drive from Billings, MT to Casper WY for lunch. About an hour out, the skies parted and behold the Sun! Onto Casper for lunch hosted by Central Wyoming Corvettes. After lunch we headed to Cheyenne for dinner (hosted by Tyrrell-Doyle Chevrolet) who also held a car show with our cars being the stars! Afterwards, those who wanted to visit the Cheyenne Train Depot Museum did so. Unlike last night, which as a VERY late night, tonight we are getting to relax and rest up for tomorrow's trek to Lincoln, Nebraska. More tomorrow!
Day4 - We arrived at Cheyenne last night (bright and sunny)so of course we all washed our cars. And of course, it was raining when we left this morning and poured for a good 100 miles. It finally cleared as we approached North Platte, Nebraska, where we stopped for lunch, after which we continued on to Kearney to check out a couple of museums. April & Pat went to the Car collection and Vik & I went to the Great Platte River Roadway Arch (History of the pioneers, etc and quite an interesting building that spans across Interstate 80). Nice weather as we arrived in Lincoln for the night. Tomorrow we head to Columbia, MO
Day5 - It rained overnight (they were right about the thunderstorm forecast - what a light show!) but it wasn't raining when we left for the Museum (as April showed!). VERY NICE COLLECTION! I won't post too many pics from it however as I took dozens and dozens - those will wait for the MHC webpage. We stopped for lunch in small town (Mound City, MO) and pulled into Columbia around 4:45 PM and attended a reception sponsored by the Mid Missouri Corvette Club. It was HOT!! - 95+ and I swear 90% humidity too! But we got our car washed and went to the hotel, where I am writing this while we're washing clothes! Oh, and of course there are now thunderstorms happening again! A poor C4 owner was washing his when it hit. Well at least he didn't have to use the hotel-supplied hose to rinse it!
Tomorrow we leave for Bowling Green, to arrive in the afternoon. More to follow
Day 6 - Today is the day we arrived at the National Corvette Museum!
And yet another hot and muggy one it was too! The drive from Missouri to Bowling Green was uneventful but we passed through Illinois and Indiana to get to Kentucky. Not much to report today other than we're hot, tired and hungry so I'll keep this short! Oh,I did get some pics of the MHC brick and Jerry's on the museum walkway. Enjoy the pics and seeya tomorrow!
Day7 - Spent the entire day at the Museum, attended a very knowledgeable seminar about the C7's Nav system, had a nice lunch and dinner with Pat & April and took lots of pics! The blue C7 roped off is the new Z06. What a beaut at 640 HP! I also found MHC's 2nd brick (in front of Museum store). Tomorrow morning is the NCM Ambassador's breakfast and we (all 4 of us) take the factory tour in the morning. More tomorrow night! Oh yes, I texted Steve and told him to look at the museum's website's Delivery Camera 1. Lo and behold, a waving me! And I've posted some sinkhole pics, Of course, thunderstorms this afternoon too!
Day8 - Last day at the Museum and last day with Pat & April, as we go our separate ways home tomorrow. But today we all did the assembly plant tour, watching the 2015 C7's being built. No pics of the inside obviously.....
Vikki & I attended the NCM Ambassador's Breakfast this morning, followed by a wonderful technical seminar about all generations. It was very enlightening on several topics. This afternoon, as Pat & April headed for Nashville, Vik & I headed for one of the many natural caves in the area. Tomorrow we head for Route 66! Should I keep posting or have y'all had enough?
Day9 - Here we are in beautiful Little Rock (well....here we are.......). We missed traveling with Pat & April but all things must pass. We'll catch up at home I'm sure!
I really don't have very many good pics except for the ones I posted (I'm especially mad the ones of the Batman building in Nashville didn't turn out during our drive by.). Yes, that is a fill car carrier of 2015 C7s we encountered west of Memphis (Ok Steve - "All The Way From Memphis". Who did it...NO CHEATING! And a few pics from Graceland too....Tomorrow we pick up RTE 66 in Tulsa and start our adventure! Stay tuned!
Day10 - We left Little Rock and headed west! We stopped at a very cool 45th Infantry Division Museum, which displays and celebrates this historic unit. I took TONS of photos but can only post a few here. An amazing experience - the 45th is the Division that entered and freed Dachau. Not to mention their Korean, Vietnam and Gulf War performance. After several hours there, we continued on our way. We came across one other Vette on today's run - a CRM C7 with Louisiana plates. Some small stops along the way but we're ending up spending the night in Weatherford, OK (near Clinton if that helps) and ate at the famous Lucilles Diner and Steakhouse. By the way, it's 100+ here and as the song says, the wind really DOES come sweepin' down the plain (I guestimate it at 35 to 45 at times)!
Tomorrow, onto Amarillo and places west! We expect to spend the night somewhere in New Mexico. Seeya then!
Day...what day is this? Oh ya...Day11! Left OOOOOO O! klahoma this morning and stopped at the Route 66 Museum in Elk City and again took lots of pics. From there we headed to Texola, OK for a nice lunch. From there we headed for Texas for some more pics. And we stopped by the Cadillac Ranch (look it up!). We're spending the night in Santa Rosa, NM. More pics tomorrow!
Dayo...Dayaaay o...Day12 come an' me wanna keep goin'
Left this morning from Santa Rosa, NM and headed to the reason for the town's existence - artesian wells. The largest and deepest is called Blue Hole. It is full of crystal clear water - so clear it looks blue. And it is a series of caves going down to 221 feet. Folks even scuba dive it.
From there we headed to Albuquerque, where we traveled the length of the old RTE 66 and stopped for lunch at the fully restored Route 66 Diner. From there, we headed to AZ, where we're stopped for the night in Holbrook. Gettin' closer!
Day13 - Thank God it's not Friday!
We left Holbrook, AZ (after cruizing through the iconic Wigwam Hotel along Route 66) and backtracked 30 miles to drive through the Painted Desert/Petrified Forest National Park. After that we headed to Winslow, Arizona to stand on a corner (it's such a fine sight to see). After trying to get some lunch at a local dive (and waiting for 45 minutes to be served after ordered), we decided to leave and find food elsewhere. We ended up finding a Jimmy John's (one of our most favorite sub shops in the world!) in Flagstaff. After a very nice tuna sub (also our favorite) we headed for parts West. And here we are - posting from our very own Great Western hotel room in the Cultural Hub of the Western World - Needles, CA! Did I mention it's 110 degrees here?
Day14 (and the 2nd to last day on the road). Pretty much a nothing happened day other than our 2 hour layover in Bakersfield to get the car's oil changed (Great dealer - Three Way Chevrolet. Free oil change and wash!) I wasn't planning on changing the oil until we got home but as hot as the weather has been, I decided it wouldn't hurt to do it sooner than later. Oh yea, it was 92 when we left Needles this morning (8 am!) and pretty much high 90s to low 100's all day. Anyway, all's good and we're spending the last night in Coalinga
This will probably be the last post from the road. When I get home and settled, I'll post all the pics we took and post 'em on the MHC webpage. And April, you gotta send me all yours too!
Thanks for following along everyone and I hope you got a good idea of how our adventure unfolded!
Day 15 - Made it from Coalinga to home today (left about 9 am and got home around 10 pm). I'll post more tomorrow but glad to be home! And now that we're home.. Dick - the car performed flawlessly the entire trip. Over 6000 enjoyable miles (well, except for the road work between Roseburg and Eugene. What a fricken mess)!
Final pic from the garage. Over 6100 miles of smiles and fun in 14 days.. Woohoo!

thank you for the compliments. I enjoyed being the Captain of the PNW and look forward to helping the Captain for 2019, as we will step down for it.
Thanks again for being a part of the Caravan and sharing your view.

Some highlights (after the Museum, Assembly Plant & MSP) were the Grand Ole Opry, General Jackson Showboat, Jack Daniels, Braves game in Atlanta, Savannah, Charleston, NASCAR museum in Charlotte, Blue Ridge Parkway (rain & fog made it impossible to see the road at times), the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, Great Smoky Mountain Nat'l Park, the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky, Lambert's Café in Sikeston MO ("home of throwed rolls"), Will Rogers memorial in Claremore OK, we tried to see the Route 66 museums in Clinton & Elk City OK, but they were closed the day we arrived. TX, NM, AZ, NV, & CA were just a blur as we were past ready to be home by then. Some did venture to the Grand Canyon and were awed.
We traveled close to 8400 miles and the 2010 Grand Sport performed flawlessly. 25.2 average mpg with an average speed of 55.0. I can neither confirm nor deny a top speed of 136 mph while passing on Hwy 95 in Nevada.
Overall, a great trip, but maybe a week too long. Would I do it again? Let me consult my achy joints and tired butt in five years.
