Some Pics From The SOVREN Historic Race at PIR
From Labor Day weekend at Portland International Raceway.
This 69 ZL1 replica is a regular (and always a top performer) at regional historic events.
This event was the debut for this A Production '73.
Another A/P Corvette.
This 302 powered A/S Camaro got my vote for the best sounding car at the event.
This Boss 302 powered American/Sedan Mustang was another good sounding entrant.
My buddy Mark's always immaculate Tiger.
V6 Buick powered ARGO on three wheels coming through turn 12.
Digging the period correct presentation here - down to the open face (but of course current) helmet.
I really liked this 356.
Very clean little 2002.
I have a personal rule of never shooting pace/parade laps - or pulling into the pits pics, but in my defense, I didn't even notice his hand - I mean he's still (obviously) pushing it!
V12 E-Type.
This Chevron was the quickest open wheel car at the event.
Even though I've always been a "door car" guy, I think if I were to go track racing, a vintage Formula Ford would likely be my choice of class.
This 1969 Winkelmann has turned many laps at PIR over the years. I've always liked the body style.
Continental Ford through turn 10 and 11 (approx. 90 mph).
Cool Formula B 1965 Brabham at the end of the backstretch (approx. 120+ mph).

Inspiring.
I have a 68 Camaro project that I plan to build in the style of a period Penske Trans Am racer. It would make a lot of sense to build it to be legal for the vintage classes while I'm at it.

Nice photos - thanks for sharing them. Looks like the vintage racers will be at Pacific Raceways this coming weekend.

that would be great! I like the idea. For the ultimate expression of the genre, I suggest you apply a black vinyl top.
