Depending on your definition of technical, The Ridge is certainly safer, much more fun and well worth the additional drive time. Although it is becoming more expensive than trackdays at COTA.
I had been told don't bother with Pacific just go to The Ridge. We ran the 1.5 mi track at Spring Mountain which is rather technical, specially for beginners, so I feel it really helped me and prepped me well. I'm excited to start this new hobby!!

I posted the link to the Track Night in America website in my other post (the SCCA track day). But the basics are three 20 minute sessions, with available instruction if you run in the novice group, for $150. They should have the dates up relatively soon, but they have a track day once a month at the Ridge from May to September and I think 3 at Pacific Raceways over the course of the same time period. I might be slightly bias since I do photography for them, but it is a pretty well put together track day and it's not super expensive for what you get either.
Thanks for the info. If you see a younger guy driving a white Z06 that could be me, come say hey! It's also possible I'll be a pacific for some drag runs.

Sounds good. I'll most likely start a thread with all the dates and such once they become available, so look out for that in the next few months.

The pavement at Pacific has not been redone in decades and its trash. They spend every freaking dollar on the dragstrip.....They have lost my support that's for sure.....

Hey who are you calling old? We are all young kids here!
I may be having my middle age crisis, but hey I can't help it if it started prematurely at the age of 16....and "still" going on strong!

I raced bicycle, tracked motorcycles and cars at Pacific before the Ridge and intimately were familiar with every single crack (specially during bicycle races), and now refuse to support a business that does not have the safety of customers in mind. Pacific even came up with a few fake plans to renovate and improve the place and never followed through. I think they were just some sort of biz hype for whatever they were up to.

Not sure if it's the same owners, but the owner operated one of the biggest DOT construction companies and yet refused to even repave the place, let alone build a couple of run offs at various turns. Trying to apex when apex is a concrete barrier isn't that much fun when you step off!
