IIRC, the schedule for the end of vehicle emissions testings was announced a couple years ago. There was a bill in the Legislature that was eventually signed by the Governor that put a time line on the testing deal.
Fortunately, I never lived in one of the areas where emissions testing was required. Your ZIP code (I think) was what determined whether or not a test was required. I would not be surprised to see some other form of testing show up in a bill. Our sorry-assed governor is so focused on climate change and global warming that he will try to get his minions to re-start emissions testing. And he will try to get some new vehicle tax passed too. If you thought the extra registration tax/fee for Sound Transit was a screwing of the people, just wait....

Well said. Like I said.....they are use to having the money.
Look for new taxes on Texts and Tweets. - taxes on driving per mile, taxes on electric vehicles to pay road use., increase gas taxes due to lower consumption, Road Tolls everywhere.
Washington state emissions was done by a contractor. I highly doubt the state was actually making money on the deal. I mean think about it, if governor Mcding dong was really making bank on this deal do you think it would be going away? hell no!
Either way I'm glad to see it going away. Maybe for once common sense is prevailing in this **** hole. I spend 15 hours a week on the road around here and there are very very few gross polluters driving around anymore and haven't been for a very long time.

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
