Default Primer blush

I probably should have known better based on the humidity and T-storms. I sprayed primer on the front corner repair last night (grey) and on the underside of the Chevelle hood (black). The blush in the black is a very obvious chalky white so I assume that they grey also blushed.

What do I need to do to fix this? BTW, I am painting laquer.

IMHO,

Take all the lacquer off the car and start over.

Throw your lacquer primer out and get some urethane or polyester primer. Better yet, start out with epoxy primer then go to urethane.

Or, you could do it the way Porchdog does it and use nothing but epoxy for primer. He uses SPI epoxy. I've used it too and it is great stuff.

I appreciate the sentiment but I am repairing a crack about six inches long. I don't really want to strip the car at this time. maybe next year.

Blushing was always a problem in the high humidity of the summer. If the humidity is nearing 70% you are getting in the range where you can experience problems. Blushing is not fatal. Wait until the humidity goes down scuff your underside of the hood and shoot again. As to the primer, unless you absorbed a great deal of moisture you should be OK. Sand it down and shoot again with lower humidity. If you must shoot in high humidity some guys use retarder but it keeps the panel wet for a longer period and often it will eat into the lower layers and or run if you are not careful. Retarder is risky business even for many of the experienced painters. Better to wait until the humidity drops. Old lacquer painter often had gauges in the booth so we could watch the humidity. Thank God for some of the newer paints where it is not so critical. Good luck-Jim

the new paints are great I actually painted my sons truck on a rainy day and it came out great. I was hesitant to paint that day but two of my body shop friends said it was not a problem.

with laq this is no problem. very common because it flashes so fast. get some slower thinner and just scuff and recoat. let it set for a while after you scuff it to let is dry out some.
