I am spraying with the DeVibiss Techna Guns, they work. I also have the Plus guns and the GTI. The Technas are designed to spary Waterborne paint. They do a great job with Solvent borne basecoats. I a have used the SATA'S and the IWATA'a, they are all good gun's
This may help you out . 1/4'' Id hose @80 psi 5'hose 5.5 psi loss, 15' 11.5 psi loss,25' 16psi loss,50' 25 psi loss. 3/8 Id hose @ 80 psi 5' hose 2.5 psi loss,15' 3.0 psi loss , 25' 4.0 psi loss, 50' 6.0 psi loss. this may be helpfull to you if you dont have a regulator on your gun ,but i would recomend getting one. I spray w/ a sata, and use a gauge that goes on the air cap, little costly but it takes out all the guesswork. good luck to ya.
Assuming you have covered all the other important bases, you'll get great results with the Devilbiss GFG 670 Plus. I love mine. Here's a few samples from cars and pieces that I've painted with it.
IMHO, it depends on the painter behind the gun. I agree with Roger about his choices. Tiger Woods can break a stick off of a tree and kick your butt at golf. All depends on who is behind the stick.
Find a gun you can afford and just practice and play with it.
I have the DeVibiss, GTI-Plus guns and I love them. I just got their new Techna guns one for Base and one for clear. Buy the way I still have a Binks #62 that I have had for 30 + years among my gun collection. I have been able to make most guns I have tryed work. I am a Rep for a Paint manufacture and I see as the biggest problem in body shops is there guns are not adjusted properly and they do not control there air pressure properly.
I use a Chicago Binks type 205 (it was made before the Dead Sea was even sick)wax string needle bearing .The new stuff is just new and looks real fancy thats all
Allentown Ernie ,my Great grand father painted cars with a brush ,until they started using spray guns .He was one of first people to die from it too.not much paint mask then. when i was kid she gave me his old gun ,and it still works great
