Default Primer question

I purchased on line a pint of urethane grey primer. I'm painting fuel rail covers, washer tank, radiator tank, and a spoiler for two cars. I started running out.

So... I went to a local Sherwin Williams auto paint store. I asked him for a quart of urethane primer. He asked me what I am using it on. He sold me a quart of RS3702 2k HS primer. My question, is this urethane? Thanks, David

I'm not real familiar with Sherwin Williams, but on their web site they are very specific with their product descriptions and their urethane primers are spelled out with "urethane" included in the product name. The second primer you purchased appears to be a standard high build 2k primer.

Not knowing what you purchased the first time, you should avoid mixing different paint brands or types together as they may not be compatible with each other and there are usually window times for recoating 2k paints. The other thing is you are painting bare plastic, and although the primer appears to be sticking to the parts, you should use an adhesion promoter on bare plastic first, which will improve paint adhesion and avoid peeling and chipping down the road.

All paint manufacturers post "Tech Sheets" on their web sites. These have full instructions on using each product and they are a must have to avoid problems.
