Clear coat ??????
If I sanded my hood on the race car with 2000 can I buff it out? No clue what is even on there for paint. I guess all paints have clear coat now? Thanks! I did one spot and it is now dull.

A safer assumption is that most paints can be buffed/polished. When you wet sanded the paint what color was the water residue? The answer will tell you if you have clear or single stage color. Was the residue clear/milky white or the color of the paint? If you have clear, you risk sanding through it because you don't know how thick it is. Same thing if you have single stage color, you don't know how much paint you have to work with. When you sand with 2000 you will dull the surface, but using different grades of polish by hand or power will bring back the gloss.
