last night i applied the second coat of epoxy , i used a different cheap gun and it came out a lot smoother than the first time ,i also put it on a little heavier and wetter [i am not a painter ,just a cheapy], what is my next move ,to put polester putty on over the primer without sanding first?, i see a few minor imperfection in body work still ,i have been going arround car for 3 weeks finding small details that needed attencion,i last sanded first coat with 180wet on 2nd coat i was told to sand with atleast 320, should i do 180 then 320 or just start with the 320, after this sanding i think i am done ,i have to apply top coat of epoxy sealer then its off to paint ,my friends told me to spray myself but i may find someone with a booth to spray it in so dust is not much of an issue
You should be able to apply polyester filler over the epoxy if you get it all on within the re-coat time of the epoxy. You will have chemical adhesion this way.
Some like to sand the epoxy anyway so as to get a mechanical adhesion.
Does the P sheet for the epoxy you are using give you any info on this issue?
i used ppg dplf48 it is wet sanding pretty good on second coat but very time consumining ,i started with 400 then went down to 380 for faster progress can i cut fast with 180 then move up to 400 or will the 180 leave sratch marks i was planning on paintinting by this weekend but i have only wet sanded the hood and 1 frt fenderit took almost 4hrs
Your not the only one to claim being "Mr. Cheapy" I have waited for years to come up with enough money to paint My 64 coupe. It sat with
unpainted body work for years. It just wasn't going to happen any time soon. So with a lot of time and no money I researched garage painting.
They advised to stay with plane light colors, no metallic, no Pearls.
But I went for the gusto! Black Sapphire metallic pearl and extra pearl in a intercoat clear, At first I could see every imperfection Fisheye's
orange peel etc.. (What Have I done). I did spend extra money on paint for several extra coats of a good clear coat. I started Wet sanding 600 in rough spots down to 2500 over all till it was smooth and dull smoky. After I buffed it, I couldn't believe my eyes, It tuned out great, actually went out and got some new chrome trim.
All in All it cost me @$600 in paint and supplies and a lot of labor
IMHO DP isn't a very high build primer. It should be topcoated with a 2K high build primer for blocking with 320-400, then seal it with DP prior to shooting color.
