First time sprayer here and I ran into a problem. I've been using a Finishline HVLP gun with 1.8mm tip for the primers/sealer and I was getting ready to spray the sealer coat of epoxy today but when I went to tune the gun, it would not adjust. It was working good when I put the first coat over the bare glass and when I was spraying the 2K last weekend. Now the paint will not atomize no matter how I adjust it and is spattering badly, at low & high air pressure and/or material flow.
The only thing I can think of is I upped the air pressure on my compressor while using another tool and shot some solvent thru the gun at high pressure. Would that damage it? If not, any ideas what could cause this to start happening?
The pressure setting on your compressor shouldn't matter as long as you have a regulator and gauge at the gun. I'm not familiar with that gun but being a HVLP gun I'd try 25 psi at the gun, 3-4 turns of material and a 8-9 inch spray pattern and see what they gets you. One thing that will screw you up is a plugged up vent hole in the paint cup cap or a dirty passage in the gun.
Another 1st time painter here...I had similar problems spraying my Base & Clear. It turns out there is a small Filter; beneith the Paint Bowl, that had clogged up on me. Apparently I hadn't cleaned the gun good enuff after the 2K. I don't know If you have a similar Filter or this is your problem though. Good luck...
