Default Door jamb prep

Can't find any info on the prep of door jambs. Short of chemical strip or media blast how do you old body guys do it?

If the paint is in good shape, just clean well with alcohol , wax and grease remover. Scuff with red scotchbrite and scuffing paste or ajax.

Reclean , seal,base,clear.

I think he's asking how to strip the jams. I would be curious to know as well. If you use a stripper it tends to run down on a vertical surface.
Anyone else?

I just did mine using chemical strip on the parts I could reach, wasn't so bad take your time. Mine had 5 coats of paint so I needed to get back to glass. In the recess where the hinges mount I used a little hand held sand blaster, 5 minites work two hours of cleaning sand out of everywhere.

I was considering sand on the inside door shell. What size of sand did you use? I've been using 30# mesh but it seems too aggressive.

For doing door jambs that are hard to reach, I just used a small drill and steel wire brush at first then went to a brass wire after I got to the primer. It worked great for me. Also used a dremel tool to get back
deeper into the back of the hinge area.

Hey Scott, did you do the 'glass side of the shells or just the steel side?

I used #30 but only blasted the inner metal parts. Also this was with doors and hinges off .

Only the steel portion of the shells. If you want to do the glass, look into buying some #6 acrylic beads.

I think I'll try the acrylic beads if I can find them in the area
