I replaced my 1986 bumper with one of Ecklers updated ZR1 fiberglass bumpers. My old urethane bumper had alot of problems so i decided to replace it with a new one since i was repainting my car. The new bumper requires fitting prior to priming and painting. I can see that some portions of the fiberglass bumper needs sanding and filling to fit like it should. My question is how do i fill if i need to go higher in one spot? Do i use filler or do i have to use fiberglass. im going to fit it to my car this weekend and see how much more work the bumper needs before priming. If i use filler do i put that on before or after i prime it? I see the back of the bumper isn't coated like the outside. You can see the fiberglass from the back. Should i put something on the inside to help it not spider if it gets bumped? thanks for any help!!
You can use Evercoat Vette Fill before you do the primer, just sand off the gel coat in the specific area and clean with acetone before you apply it. I use epoxy primer on them and spray the back at the same time for extra protection.

fiberglass replacements have both advantages and disadvantages, you can use any polyester fillers on them with no problems, and generally can get them straighter than your urethane bumpers because they aren't flexible, but that's also the problem because they are more prone to cracking if you do bump them.
Filler first, then primer. You can add a flexible agent to the primer but IMO it's pointless because the fiberglass doesn't flex much, you just gotta be more carefull with the 'glass
