I am getting ready to paint my 72 black and was wondering whether to use base/clear or enamel. Does anyone have any suggestions.

I would use an acrylic urethane single stage.
Enamel is old technology and not near as good as today's urethanes.

You could go with a bc/cc (still acrylic urethane) but with black, I would go with the single stage.

Thanks Roger I meant single stage it`s late and I think I had a brain fart or something. Why single stage over bc/cc will it sand and buff out better

It's probably just a preference of the individual painter. Some just think that in black or pure white, ss just looks a little better.

With any solid color, ss is still a good choice also. But with metallics, bc/cc is the best choice since color sanding a ss metallic can mess up the look of the paint.

In any case, bc/cc is still a good way to go too.

Single stage is less expensive and can yield good results.

BS/CC is more$, but is ultimately what 99.9% of cars are painted with these days.

If money is an issue go with single. If it isnt go with BC/CC.

the single stage on black does not show scratches as bad as BC/CC. the clear tends to turn white when scratched and is easy to see.
