I just ordered a new front bumper cover from a vendor on this forum. It is the Flexiglass Toledo pro material. What should I use to bond this to my car. I dont want the mismatch so I will fill it to match and want to lose the seam.
Assuming you have a C3, I gave a high level procedure at the link below. I don't recommend bonding a flex bumper though, I just don't feel that it is a good base for filler. A standard fiberglass bumper would be better and the same amount of work.
I already purchased it. I guess I'll hope for a good fit and will be sure to get the rear in glass. Im going with the 80 like yours. Where did you order from?
PS I grew up in Detroit. Mostly around 7 and MT Elliot.
With a flex fiberglass bumper you can run into 2 problems. One, the flex fiberglass type are less stable than traditional fiberglass and the bumpers can take on a different shape after being pulled out of the mold, especially if the bumper didn't cure enough before they pulled it out. Two, the resin/mat and filler that you will use cures hard and has very little flex. The flex fiberglass bumper is semi rigid, I don't feel that applying rigid materials over a semi rigid part is a good choice for long life.
When I do an installation, I tell the owner to get standard fiberglass bumpers from ACI. You mention the '80 bumper, unless Toledo Pro changed their molds, thier '80 rear bumper is 1" shorter at the bottom than OEM or ACI which ends up showing more of the mufflers.
I didnt order the rear one yet so I will go glass on the rear and hope for a good fit on the front. If its a poor fit I may have to get a new front also. I'll post up later. Hopefully it will be here today.
