86 removable top
I had a reaction when painting the top and doors with my current paint. I was advised to take it down to the substrate which i have. when sanding the top down i was able to remove the metal border that covers the front and sides of the top. It came off with little effort. There was no bending or warping of the piece. My question is do i paint that piece separatly or paint it while its on the car and just tape it because the roof is red and the trim piece will be black like it was. I am wondering about scratches when i put the metal piece on after i paint both pieces. I did not sand down those nibs which i believe hold the metal trim on. Should i put in a little silicone on the inside of the molding so it stays on? I guess the 12 coats of paint was keeping it on pretty snuggly
