Default paint prep question

I am doing a color change on an 86. The interior and doors have been gutted. I would like to paint the interior floorboards, rear hatch area and inside the doors with a SS. What is the minimum prep work I should need to do before painting these areas?

it depends on what is already there? why paint the floorboards?
they will be covered by carpet,
spend your time installing heat/sound deadner instead.

I just replaced the carpet in my '80. As I knew the carpet had gotten wet from time to time I was prepared to find rust. Surprisingly I found nothing but a little surface rust. We first washed the area with some detergent to remove any grease. After that I removed all the loose rust with a wire brush wheel on a drill. The final step was to cover those spots with Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator which is essentially a spray pint that kills rust. Check their anti-rust products out here: http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?i...ORY&itemID=372

Hope this helps.
