Default Is Primer Needed
I have to paint a cap for my sons truck. Cap is original paint with no problems other than wrong color. Can I just scuff with 400-600 paper and then paint or do I need primer. Thanks in advance.

Forgot to mention it will be a base clear. It will be a Toyota Indigo Ink Pearl going over a red paint, if not primed. Using PPG paint.

I've always been told you can scuff and base right on OEM clear.

I use a gray scotch pad and scuffing gel.

But is this cap OEM? Is it BC/CC or SS?

It is OEM. Don't know if it is single stage or base clear.
