Default somebody shoot me

after many, many painstaking hours of stripping my 87 down to bare smc, i was finally ready to spray the epoxy. i scrubbed the whole car twice with dawn on saturday. i even washed under the hood. i think i should have closed the hood right away, because sunday morning i went to start the epoxying, and noticed a wet strip across the front of the hood. at first i thought it was water. i put a heat lamp on it and no change. put it in the sun today, still there. now i'm thinking it must be oil that soaked through while the hood was in the upright position. i epoxied the rest of the car, with excellent results. the spi epoxy went on like glass. and believe me, i am no painter. i am a carpenter just trying to paint my car. if the rest of the job goes as nice as the spi epoxy, i'll be real happy. if anybody has any suggestions on the spot at the front of the hood, please let me know.

most likely water trapped inside the inner hood. put the hood in the sun for a day. if you used gray epoxy you wont need a guide coat

tried the sun again today. the spot is actually getting worse. i'm going to take the hood off tomorrow and stand it up on end to try to drain what ever's in there. i was so close to having it in primer. the good news is, i tried out the iwata on another car today, and i must say, it is awesome.

well that just sucks . i've seen a few hoods ruined by compressor oil. water should dry out after a day or so. i leave the bare body in the sun for a few days after washing it to cook out the moisture. water can be as bad as solvents on glass. good luck with it . i'll keep my fingers crossed for you .

i'm not giving up on it yet. i took the hood off and have it sitting out with the front in the air. worst case, corvette carlisle is only 2 weeks away. lots of hoods to be had there.

if it is not water dawn soap will do a good job of getting oil out of glass.
